Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Politics Do Not Pass/Pass With Care. Today's truckers are far more educated and cognizant of the issues regarding politics due to the sharp increase in talk radio, and various trucking news media sources. Talk politics. Do truckers like politicians?

Do you really live on this planet?
Good waiters make a fine living.
Hotel cleaners are normally part time workers.
Retail sales is not menial labor.
Gardeners and pool cleaners also make a fine living.

Face it, fast food jobs or part time work were never meant to support families.

Last I checked, MacDonalds was paying over $9 an hour and that was about 5 years ago. That was more than I made on a lot of jobs I worked, including driving a boxtruck delivering siding. So menial jobs and starvation pay do not go hand in hand.

The whole problem of illegal immigration is the government not enforcing the laws and doing their highly overpaid job to keep the borders secure.

You guys have been working on the whole mess for 30 years so you can see that there's not an easy solution. We've been working at it in many ways too. But nobody deserves a guaranteed set amount of pay. If you did guarantee that everyone was paid, you'd end up with a massive hoard of lazy people collecting checks and nothing else. Trust me, we've seen that here.
I don't believe that there are many people that would rather sit around without a job just getting by if they could have a job and get some of the better things in life. The problem with the welfare culture is putting a whole community of them together where the kids know of nothing else. Where my daughter lives is a really nice neighbourhood and the people in her co-op are a mix from disabled, old retired, working couples and just plain folks. The management of the co-op is very strict about the rules of living there and so the place is clean, well kept, safe, and just generally nice. This whole idea of co-op housing has been very successful here. There is no stigma attached to living there and there is no welfare culture at all. They have changed the name of welfare in Ontario to Ontario works. This change was also reflected in the way they deal with people. They actively help and direct people into jobs and to collect welfare you must be part of that program.

I have not been posting because this really gets me going how people can be so nieve.
They don’t see what’s happing in other countries that have a public heath care system

I spend I lot of time outside the US yesterday someone told me that they need the day off and told me why. They had to go to the public clinic this is how it works.

The office opens up at 8am and they start taking names on first come first service basics they only accept the first 50 so you have to get there at 5am and wait in line for them to open. If you are lucky enough to be in the first 50 they let you in now the first appointment is at 1pm because the doctors are at the hospitals all morning and don’t arrive at the clinic until after lunch. So they have been there 8 hours and now depending what number you have you may get to see the doctor by 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

That what we have to look forward to maybe not right away but in 15 or 20 years in system will be just like this here. And why would we be any different then the other countries that has a public system. People keep saying that will never happen here
And I ask why they think that and they say because it won’t, blind faith is all they have.

Now putting blind faith in the same people that run cash for clinkers, the VA system, social security and Medicare is absolutely nuts. Look at the latest H1N1 vaccination crisis
The government got involved and set the price for the vaccination every reputable drug company would not make it for that price so now we have a tinted product that has many people thinking about not getting it but now they won’t have to worry about wither to take it because they wont be able to find it anyway. The companies we hired to make it are using outdated equipment and it taking twice as long as they told us it would.

Now if the government stayed out of it and let the free market set the price we would have a safe vaccination with out shortages. See were blind faith will get you.

We will never have a reformed healthcare system until we have true competition and tort reform but the Dem don’t want either why?

We need to open up the market places and let companies buy across state lines and we need some kind of tort reform or we will never cut costs.

But this was never about cutting cost it’s about control and spreading the wealth.

And I don’t understand why 45% of the country can’t see what’s really happing here.
