How do we (Health Care)

First off, we have to look at what's wrong with health care insurance.

The obvious one, is that private health care is too expensive for millions of families. I understand and have seen the numbers of illegals and those who chose not to have health insurance. But for the most part of lower income and even some middle class families, some just can't afford the $700 to $1,500 a month for private health care for their families.

Why is the cost of health care insurance so high. Many health care insurers have recorded quarterly profits of close to $1 billion. Thats in 1 quarter. Health insurers make it a big part of their business, to deny as many claims as they can get. And even drop those who are costing them too much of their profits.

Of course, they are their own business. And have the right to make as much money as they can. But that doesn't change the fact that it effects many people who have paid their premiums on time. And it also effects their chances of getting health care from another provider when they are dropped from the first one. Getting a new company to insure you, with a pre-existing condition, at an affordable rate, is almost impossible.

The government's answer is one of a un-constitutional solution. There is nothing in the Constitution that says our taxes should go to pay doctors of everyone else. It's a clear violation of the government's role.

But isn't it also a clear violation of the government to do about 90% of everything they do? From collecting income tax, overthrowing foreign democratically elected governments & providing Medicare and medicaid. Try to take away Medicaid from an elderly person with a bad hip or heart. You'll probably get a cane thrown at you. Not to mention, it would be very inhumane to deny someone who's too old to work and pay for private health care.

With the government collecting so much revenue and taxes, it makes the head spin to think about all the stupid things they spend their money on. Especially the things that have no effect on the American people, who pay for it.

And digging deeper into this issue. The same part of the government that is opposed to this government sponsored health care idea, are the same people who recieve tax payer funded health care. They scream "socialism", but have no problem with our tax $$$ going to pay for theirs and their families health care. Isn't that socialism with a hypocritcal spin?

They also say it's bad for the free market. Where and when have we ever had a free market in health care. It was back before LBJ, who started Medicaid/Medicare. But even back then, the government had already started it influence in the health care industry. I'm not rocket scientist, but when the government regulates anything, the free market doesn't exist anymore.

Personally, I don't like the idea of the government getting this deep into the health care business. And as a conservative, I like competition. But it seems the only way the Health Care insurance companies are going to see any real competition, is to have the government's health care plan take effect. That would lower prices. I don't think it will put isnurance companies out of business. They wouldn't be getting such high profits. And they would be more apt to accept more customers.

As far as the competition, it's a win win. But for those of us who would rather not see the government get involved with our health care, it's a lose-win. We lose the battle against big government. But we get the insurance companies to lower their prices.

One thing I'd like to point out, is the people who work for companies that offer a health care plan to their employees. First off, if your opposed to the Government's health care plan because you think it's socialistic. Think about this.

Your boss pays for (usually) about 2/3rds of your health care. How does he do this. He takes it out of his profits. When he charges everyone else that does business with him/her. He has to charge them more to cover the cost of your health care. He does this to stay competitive and to help keep you healthy enought to keep working. It benefits him and you. But for all the people that buy his product or service, it cost them more.
Just use Exxon/Mobile for example. The offer one of the best benefit packages known to man. And because they do, we have to pay more for their gas or deisel. Every time we pull up to the pump, we're not just paying the taxes. We are paying for every person's health care that works for them. So if Exxon didn't have to pay so much in health insurance for it's employees, we wouldn't have to pay so much for their fuel. Unless they wanted to charge the same amount, and keep the extra profits. Which would be their right, because it's their company and their profts.

Instead of taking the huge amount of propaganda, generally paid for by the US insurance companies, I took my questions to yahoo chat. In the Canada rooms. I wanted to get it straight from the horses mounth. I learned quickly, that most of the propaganda about a National Health Care plan, was just that. Propaganda. I was told, that if people want to pay for a doctors visit or surgery, to get faster care. There are enough doctors that take private health insurance, and can be seen a.s.a.p. And the waiting lines you horror stories that are told, are from people who are using the government's plan. Emergency room visits are no longer than most emergency rooms in America.

I had to take my ex-wife to the emergency room one day for a bite that we didn't know what bit her. We waited for 2 hours to get into the room. Another hour to get checked. And yet another 2 hours to find out the results. And in my town of less than about 30,000 people, that's a long time. Considering the ER wasn't busy.

In America, we have the best doctors. So I don't think, a National Health Care Plan is going to make our smart doctors stupid. They will still be good doctors. And if you have private health insurance, from what I understand, you'll be able to keep it.

Ron Paul has authored a health care bill that I would support over the Obama-Care plan. It gives tax break, dollar for dollar, for those who have private health care insurance.
Here's the bill: [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

I don't care about if a person is Liberal, Conservative, Democrat, Independent, I simply DO NOT WANT "Nationalized Health Care" system!!

Call me irrational, but, to ME, this is just one more step towards becoming a different NATION!

I do NOT want our country to become like France, Canada, (no offense, ya'll, but I LOVE my country, with all of it's flaws), or Great Britain! (Hey, isn't THAT the country our forefathers fled from? To form a Nation of our OWN? And NOT have to follow in their footsteps??!!!??)

And as for other Third World countries, if America adopts the "Universal Health Care", how are all these poor kids, who have horrific health problems, and physical deformities, get free travel here, free housing, free doctors/SPECIALISTS, free hospital stays, etc.(Most of which are covered by the pro-bono of the said docs, and hospitals...NATIONALIZED HEALTH CARE will take that option AWAY!!!!) WHERE are they to get all of that?
This is a wonderful way for the prosperity of Americans, and our health care, and doctors, and hospitals, to help others less fortunate. Take that away, and we will be just ANOTHER country with some truly - UP health care system.

I think the rhetoric from Capital Hill, comes from alot of (espeically Republicans), that can't control their spending and refuse to ACT conservative. After all, if they would have been conservative when they had the majority, we wouldn't all be worried about the democrats right now.

But, just imagine how far our taxes could go for you and I, if republicans were actually conservative with our tax $$$$. Especially if we weren't paying for [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. . Some can't see or have forgotten the previous republican majority, and their liberal spending frenzies, bailouts, larger government, no-bid contracts and a foreign policy that has almost bankrupted this country. Oh sure, they act conservative now. But it's too late now. We are already in a mess.

Socialism? Sure a National Health care system is socialistic. Its the same kind of socialism that those politicians support, every time they go to the doctor and pay him with OUR money. It's like Al Gore driving his Hummer to a rally against Hummer's.

If your scared of the NHCP (National Health Care Plan) taking effect. You should be. Because it's probably going to happen before the end of this year. And if your scared of the Republicans not abolishing it when they regain the majority, you should be. Because the Republicans don't have a history of abolishing anything the democrats started.

For example:
During the Clinton Administration, when de-regulation of the gas/oil market, stock market, housing market and others occured, we can all agree, that it was bad for this country. It allowed the fuel prices to soar, housing bubble to burst and the stock market to over-inflate itself.
Some republicans were against it. But the majority of them allowed it to happen.
And when they took the majority, they didn't abolish it, and bring back the regulations that kept those markets in check. No, they ran with it. Allowing them & their friends in those industries to make record profits. And causing many hardships for Americans...The proof in the amount of truckers who had to fold because of high fuel prices.
So if your looking to the republicans to stop this or overturn it when they regain power. Don't count your chicken lights.

One thing I'm counting on when it happens, is for lower prices in health insurance. Which I will welcome. When the competition hits the health insurance industry, I will probably get better coverage for me and my family (from the private insurance I pay for), at a lower price. And seeing the profits of the insurance companies this quarter (Almost $1 Billion each), I don't think them losing a few million is going to bankrupt them.

As I stated, I don't want a NHCP either. But I dont see many (especially republicans) supporting HB 1495.

The entire medical system is bunk. The simple fact is that people dont become doctors just because they love helping people, they love the money. Some places pay doctors a flat salary regardless of how much they do, these places (like the military medical clinic we go to) tend to attract people that are genuinly interested in making peoploe better, but tend to be understaffed. Places that pay the docs according to how much they do for a patient attracvt all kinds of people, but while they are calling for a battery of tests and watching thier paycheck swell with every order are they realliy DOING more for the patients or themselves? Does spending a load more, rather costing the patient and thier insurance, if they have any, going to serve the patients' heath better? According to a couple studies, not at all.

A point I can make, forcing money driven docs to work for flat salaries will definately keep costs down, but will also cause some problems. At least initialy it will, those that aren't in it for the right reasons will adjust or find somewhere else to go I'm sure. However, we will all have to deal with thier #### until then.

Happy military docs?

Yeah, and it has NOTHING to do with Uncle Sam picking up the tab for medical school.

I'd smile for a few years if I got free medical school and training.

Don't worry, nationalized health care insurance won't be anywhere near profitable.

Ever.

Never.

In fact, it will bankrupt this Country.

Actuly most of the real docs at our local facilities are contract civilians making a flat salary. Very few of the military docs are doctors, but are Physicians Assistants. kind of a "Dr. Lite". Because they can make more money outside the military and the odds of being forward depolyed are high, there are fewer military physicians at the hospital every year.

The only real issue I had with them while I was still active was finding the newly graduated/commisioned docs that hadn't become jaded by all the "sick-bay commandos" that spend more time in medical trying to get out of work or going to sea than working for a living.
