Politics Do Not Pass/Pass With Care. Today's truckers are far more educated and cognizant of the issues regarding politics due to the sharp increase in talk radio, and various trucking news media sources. Talk politics. Do truckers like politicians?

MY OWN children aren't the point. They spent days and weeks chained to their beds and were fed soggy dog kibble when they were good and were drug around by the neighborhood bullies when they weren't.

President Obama Says Kids Need More School, Less Summer Vacation?

Quote:
President Obama says American kids spend too little time in school, which puts our children at a disadvantage with other students around the world. Obama wants kids to spend more time in school, less time on summer vacations? According to the President:
Now, I know longer school days and school years are not wildly popular ideas. Not with Malia and Sasha, not in my family, and probably not in yours. But the challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom.
President Obama would like schools to add time to classes, to stay open late and to let kids in on weekends so they have a safe place to go. I asked my children about the President’s plan for more school time and the opinion around MY house was a big thumbs down!

How about simply more QUALITY education, in the time that they are CURRENTLY in school???
More teachers, smaller class sizes, and educator admins that give a damn??

of course there are people who like the idea.. those are the same ones who treat school as 'free babysitting'

sorry but i Think school was too long actually. i reach a point in the day where i can't learn anymore without forgetting something i learned earlier in the day.

i honestly feel i might have been better off home schooled and just given all the work to do. i'll ask questions if i have any.

Since I've decided to return to college to become a high school teacher, I feel a vague desire to weigh in on this.

1. A longer school year should be an option, on a requirement. There are still families out there who want their kids home for the summers, for vacations, work, helping around the house, etc, etc.

2. Teacher's pay should be based upon the teacher's performance. I had too many teachers who showed up just to collect a paycheck, and that was damaging to all the students.

3. Homework should be used as a tool to assist in learning the class appropriate information, not to replace the classroom learning environment. Too many teachers are lazy, and use homework in place of actually teaching. Leaving a student with 5 or 6 hours of homework every night is just gonna burn out the student, and prevent the student from actually learning anything.

4. Noone, and I don mean noone, should be a teacher unless they truly desire to teach, and inspire our youth to learn their particular fields (history, math, english, and so on).

I have always wanted to teach history, because some of the greatest teachers I had were history teachers, and I love discussing history, especially with young people. My history teachers rarely, if ever, assigned homework. And if they did, it was usually in the form of a research paper, thus also helping the students with applying the knowledge they had gained in English and critical writing classes (a fine example of teachers from different disciplines working together for the betterment of their students).

So keep an eye on me, folks. I may be teaching your kids some day, haha!

I beg to disagree.....respectfully......

My kids since 1st grade were sent home with packets.....every day...and a packet for the weekend....

When a kid is given homework....it's just not the kid's homework...it's the parents as well...

Now Cali is a different animal...they cut all of the shop classes out of high school...but.....they have Environmental studies....they have Minority studies......
We had a parent-teacher-adviser conference about a month ago...The teacher's biggest gripe was some kids are texting in her class (not my kid) and that distracts the other students.....

I told her that it was her classroom....and if it were me...one warning....the second time...in the trash they go......

And this is in a college prep English class...

Apparently having a phone is a "right".....And even though it is school policy not to have a phone in sight during school...There are certain kids who text during class.....and many a "Race Card" has been pulled against teachers who did confiscate the offenders phones.....

Political Correctness has pretty much destroyed the California Education System...
