Rangel's Enablers NY Post Editorial October 8, 2009 -
Quote:
The GOP resolution yesterday seeking to suspend Rep. Charlie Rangel's role as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee achieved its goal: not his suspension, but a public display of the Democrats' tolerance for sleaze. With Dems in charge -- and unwilling to acknowledge Rangel's repeated lapses over the years -- no one really expected the measure to pass. So it was no surprise that members voted 246-153, mostly along party lines, to refer the resolution to the Ethics Committee -- a move meant to bury the issue further. Again, the GOP bill was more about Democrats than Rangel. Shame on them. Yes, the resolution details a litany of Rangel's shady deals, conflicts of interest and repeated lack of disclosure, laying out a compelling case for his suspension. (Excerpts appear on the preceding page.) But Rangel is just one congressman; his alleged sins are less troubling than other Democrats' denials. Their vote, after all, keeps him as head of the House tax-writing committee. Maybe they're just having trouble keeping up with the endless revelations about Rangel. Wednesday, The Post's Geoff Earle reported yet a new one: Rangel apparently slipped into a spending bill some $3 million in pork for City College -- the CUNY school that will house the $30 million "Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service." The money is for research to develop "high-performance multi-threat vehicle armor." Funny, though: The Pentagon doesn't want it and never asked for it. It sure looks like a payoff to Rangel's CUNY friends for housing the center. For Rangel, of course, such a shady deal would be nothing new. But CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein enjoys a sterling reputation -- and has worked hard to turn his school into a tremendously respected institution. Why would he want CUNY to be tainted by accepting pork arranged by a compromised congressman for a dubious project? Better for Goldstein to reject it -- and save CUNY's honor. House Democrats, on the other hand, have little honor left to save.

But Jefferson was pre-racial and couldn't claim it was because of any other color than green.

True I forget we are Talking DUMMYCRATS that will refuse to do the RIGHT thing and resign. Anytime something like this for the most part in the GOP happens the person has the DIGNITY AND HONOR TO RESIGN. Except for Ted Stevens and Randy Cunningham every other GOP'er that I can think of that was in this kind of Trouble has RESGINED ANY LEADERSHIP ROLE IN CONGRESS.
