Israel is the only true democracy in the whole Middle east. If I had only one word to describe Israels treatment of the Arabs that surround I would have to say. "restrained". These same Arab countries have manipulated a people,"The palastinians". To camp out on the borders of Israel for 60 years and keep them in perpetual poverty,fanning the flames of hate and violence. These people have been used as pawns by their own brothers for too long. Before the beginning of the Zionist movement the land was almost a waste land, thinly populated by nomads and tenant farmers who lived a subsistance lifestyle. Most of the land was owned by pobahs who lived in places like Bhagdad and Damascus. These absentee landlords sold the land to the Jews who immigrated there. No one twisted their arms to do it. The Jews were instantly successful with their farming and development of the land and the locals hated them for it. During the original formation of the state the Jewish leadership welcomed the local Arabs to stay but these same Arab leaders who had been oppressing these people for centuries said,"No no no,you must get out. Leave the land of these infadels.
I generally am not in favour of most American foreign policy but America's policy towards Israel has been almost perfect. The USA has supported Israel because it's supporting freedom. It has cost the country a lot of money as we have heard in this thread and all that money was spent for the right reasons. America does not expect a payback for this support other than this policy towards a small free country surrounded by bloodthirsty foes shows the USA to be that "Shining light on a hill" that is the best of the USA.
