With "compromises" like these...

Heck. Even the tiniest steps toward full centralization is still a step in that direction. They can whine and cry that it wasn't as big a step as they wanted, but in the end the Nanny-Statists will win if it keeps going like it is.

...and then come the bread lines and six-month waiting periods for any kind of care at all... unless you're politically connected, of course.

CBO Analysis Says Repub Healthcare Alternative Reduces Costs

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) last night released a preliminary analysis (pdf) of the Republican alternative health care bill offered in the form of an amendment. The amendment would eliminate Pelosicare bill in its entirety and become the replacement bill.

The CBO and JCT found that the Republican alternative would lower premiums by up to 10 percent and reduce the deficit by $68 billion over 10 years without tax increases. The letter confirmed what Republican have been saying all along: their alternatives offer common sense, free market solutions which are always cheaper than leviathan government programs.

“When it comes to reforming health care, controlling skyrocketing costs is the American peoples’ top priority. Now CBO has confirmed that the Republican plan will lower health care costs for American families, and that’s good news for everyone struggling in today’s economy. The choice now could not be clearer: Speaker Pelosi’s plan raises costs. Our plan lowers them,” said Rep. John Boehner, the House Republican Leader.

The sad part is that Pelosi and Reid will see to it that the republican bill will never make it to the floor.

Well after the more I think about I should have voted for the final choice and keep the government out of health care, period. Even with a bipartisan solution it still means they are interfering with it.

Precisely. They will screw it up. ANY time there is a "bill/law" it is open to "interpretation" by thieves who go to school 4 years to learn how to "lie"....WE the tax payers MUST hold ALL current politicians accountable.

Nothing so strongly impels a man to regard the interest of his constituents, as the certainty of returning to the general mass of the people, from whence he was taken, where he must participate in their burdens.

George Mason, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 14, 1778

Moderate Democrats 'Anguished' Over Unpopular Votes as House Weighs Health Bill
Some moderate Democrats still are “really anguished” over voting for the energy bill, Rep. Jason Altmire told Fox News, and they “would be reluctant now to vote for health care and take a second vote that might be unpopular in their district.”

With Republicans raising the volume of their protests and House Democratic leaders uncertain if they have enough rank-and-file support, some moderate Democrats sense that passing a health care reform bill will be as difficult as the House’s energy bill, which was approved by a slim margin June.

That has caused quite a bit of hand-wringing among the Democrats.

Some “really anguished” over voting for the energy bill, Rep. Jason Altmire told Fox News, and they “would be reluctant now to vote for health care and take a second vote that might be unpopular in their district.”

House Republicans who voted unanimously against the energy bill warned its greenhouse gas restrictions would cost jobs, and they are making the same jobs warning about the health bill's requirement's for small businesses. Once again, their opposition is unanimous.

"Those who have just lost their jobs or who feel they're in danger are going to look to Washington and go, 'What are they doing?'" said Rep. Shelly Capito, R- W.Va.

It's an argument that could resonate with the public as the government reports a 10.2 percent unemployment rate, the highest since 1983, and an all-time high $1.42 trillion dollar budget deficit.

Moderate Democrats say historically they're the people who pay for their party's tough votes.

"The people that lost seats were people representing swing districts that tended to be more moderate legislators reflecting the views of those districts," said Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D.

Polls suggest the economy's deep recession has raised all voters’ concerns about spending and debt, and the White House is finding it hard to decouple that from health care

Under pressure from the White House, Majority Leader Harry Reid says he plans to bring a health care reform package to the floor of the Senate next week, and his goal is to see it passed by the end of the year.

But he faces an uphill climb in getting the required 60 votes necessary to start debate.

First, Reid is awaiting final word from the Congressional Budget Office on costs and coverage implications of the still-secret bill he submitted more than two weeks ago.

The Nevada senator advanced the House health care bill, which narrowly passed 220-215 on Saturday, to the Senate legislative calendar next week, allowing him to move the procedure along in the absence of an actual Senate bill. The move also permits him to have the Senate bill, once it has a price tag, to skip the committee process and go straight to debate.

But three Democrats -- Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana -- and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut have told Reid they want the legislative text of the bill and a final CBO score available online for 72 hours before beginning a debate.
