Okay, I have a weird question... I am pretty darn sure I know the answer but co. is saying different...
If I move to line 4 from line 3, for 15 minutes to fuel, do I have to flag it?
And while you are here, I flag moves to line 4 with city/state & reason (aka FUEL/CITY, STATE, PRETRIP/CITY, STATE). Is that right or wrong?

If you are fueling you are still on duty but not driving.
You and I both know it takes at least 15 minutes to fuel so do it right and you'll stay out of trouble.
Additionally, the DOT will look at your logbook to see where you fueled.
There is no advantage to stay on line 3 because that take's time away from your daily driving time allowance. -
IROC you are correct on both accounts.

I always move to line 4 when fueling, and I always flag below 'Fuel/city, state'. If I move to line 4 I always flag it why, otherwise moving from 3, 2, or 1 I just flag city state.
They are saying... not to flag fuel stops but that they are to be on line 4 I -have- to be reading this message wrong that is not legal way of logging... but thats what it says, dont flag fuel stops. -
Ignore them.
Not flagging a fuel stop will get you a falsified log ticket and deep scrutiny on the rest of your logs. -
Maybe they are saying to always fuel on line 4, and not just flag fueling off of line 3.
We use express fueling and do not get a fuel receipt. At stops like the Pilot at Casa Grande I can pull in, fuel 175 gallons, check out the truck, and be finished in under 7 minutes. We have several drivers that always flag fueling off of line 3 because of this. I'm not one of them. I always go in to the bathroom, get a sub, plus do a complete check of the truck while the fuel is running. By the time I get my log book caught up at least 15 minutes has gone by. -
Can't speak for all companies but everyone I worked for wanted fueling on line 4. Period. You didn't have to write fuel, but you did show the city and state. They required you show 15 minutes BUT you could be 15 minutes before or after ie fueled at 2:41 you could show starting to fuel at 2:30 or 2:45. That's just the companies I worked for but they were all the same. I continued to that as an O/O and never had a problem with DOT or Log Audit.I usually followed this rule: If in doubt LOG IT! Worry about it later. May not be a good rule but it worked for me.

Some people try to FLAG a fuel stop showing less than 7 minutes, and remain on line 3. It would appear your company does not want this type of flagging and to reflect it on line 4 as on duty not driving.Everett Thanks this. -
IROC, Roadmedic explains it perfectly. Flagging means just showing the city/state without any time to complete the deed. (Such as fuel, pre-trip etc). Under 7 minutes, you can flag it. (DOT rule). What your company is saying is, don't flag it, you must show minimal time to do the deed (15 min).

Use the K.I.S.S. principle here (Keep It Simple Stupid) Always,Always show 15 minutes to fuel, try to keep it within 15-30 min. on when you actually did and you'll rarely (you'll always find an ####### now and then) ever have problems on a log inspection. been at this since '93 and as long as I have followed this rule I have avoided trouble, when I didn't it sometimes bit me in the backside. If theres a way to "cowboy it" do it shady, I've probably tried it, sometimes you get away with it sometimes you pay dearly for it. thats truckin' for ya.
