I-Shift is only box rated for that torque, Volvo manual and Fuller and ZF are not. Scania manual is but they don't sell it to others. Scania will beat Volvo in torque and HP in near future, I quess something like 710-720hp.
I don't like automated manuals either, it must be manual or real automatic like Allison.

"Oil-change interval : 100,000 kms or once a year"
Darn, -
I saw that ad and I'm guessing it will be introduced in Europe. I own a Volvo 780 with the D16, and as far as I'm concerned, they can put a stick of dynamite in it and put it out of its misery. I have 340k miles on it and been in the shop literally monthly. The very last thing that put the icing on the cake is that I had the Actuator changed on the turbo (3rd time) and since Volvo cannot get it right, they decided to put a service bulletin on it and change the engines' fuel management, which in turn lowers boost and power so the turbo would not put so much PSI and therefore not fail (turbo has been changed twice, as well as injectors, EGR cooler, etc, etc,). As long as I'm on this, and I'm sorry to be hijacking this thread, but does anyone know the power loss through the driveline on these 780's? Engine is rated at 500hp and its putting 401 to the ground (this is after they screwed around with the fuel management to lower turbo's PSI).
Now, to the people in Europe, I believe that the Volvo D16 is a great engine THERE, but with all the major changes Volvo engineers have done to it here in the states, it is a piece of junk. I have yet to hear from a satisfied Volvo D16 owner. As for me, with all the problems this engine gave me and Volvo's lack of customer commitment, they have lost me as a customer.KB3MMX and The Challenger Thank this. -
HEY DAJJTransport I HAVE NOT SEEN THAT SB # YET AND ON THE TURBO IT'S THE SAME TURBO THAT CUMMINS USE'S (HOLSET) WE JUST HAD TRAINING CLASS ON THE NEW 2010 ENGINES WHERE THEY NOT GOING TO CUT BACK ON THE % OF THE EGR USE, UREA WILL BE INJECTED IN TO THE DPF SYSTEM , THEY NEED TO DO THAT FOR THE 2010 EPA ,SO NOW THEY CAN CAN USE LESS EGR VALVE , AND THAT WILL YOU MORE POWER AND LESS SOOT GOING THOUGH THE ENGINE ,AND THE THE DRIVER WILL NOT HAVE TO STOP AND DO A REGEN , ON THE TURBO PROBLEM WE HAVE GOT NEW ONES RIGHT OUT THE BOX AND PULLED THEM APART AND THE VGT WAS STICKING , SO THE PROBLEM IS--NOT -- VOLVO BUT HOLSET, SORRY ABOUT YOUR TRUCK , BUT WE DO A LOT OF HAPPY 16L DRIVERS AND SOME NOT SO HAPPY

Only problem with the Volvo 700 hp engine is it only comes in that nasty looking cab over. It will not be put in the 780 or 880, this came directly from volvo! If they would put it in the 780 i would be all over that, and yes you can shift the I-shift tranny how ever you want just like a manual.

But IMO unless you are pulling the space shuttle it would be a waste of power -
i'm sure that the volvo 700 hp will be just another big engine with no power. i work at volvo dealership since 15 years, we try to troubleshoot all day long the lack of power complaint. we go to the dyno very often. the result goes like that: d16 600 hp = 515 wheel hp, 535 = 415wheel hp, 500hp ±400 wheel hp. all of the result are from engine under warranty and Volvo Canada state that these result are normal. we also dyno many cummins isx for the extended warranty coverage (around 400 000 mile) and the 500 hp isx get 510-520 wheel hp. the isx 565 get around 550 wheel hp.
the volvo 700 hp will get around 550-560, it's far from 700
all the result are with cooling fan on -
