DAC which now goes by a different name is a reporting system that some companies use to report on drivers that have worked for them as far as behavior issues. Many companies use the system to 'blackball' drivers by giving them bad reports. This system costs money to use so not all companies use it.

With the advent of CSA 2010, I don't know how long the replacement for DAC will be around. Not sure how you check it. Someone with some more recent knowledge will probably be in with more and better info, and the name it goes by now!

DAC is now called "HireRight". Before that it was "Usis". You can get a hold of them and request a free copy of your file. Much like a credit report.

HireRight is the new name. Just Google it, go to their website. Call the 800 number or fill out something online, you get one copy per year for free last time I checked. DAC is now considered HireRight.

If you're asking what a DAC is you do not need to worry about having a DAC report as you have no trucking experience! It's a reporting service for trucking companies. If you were fired, quit, wrecked a truck, falsified a log cussed out a dispatcher or were just stupid or got boned by a company then you'll have a DAC or actually a HireRight report as that's the name they are using this year! DAC was their first name and it's stuck.
Anyway, until you work for a company that uses this BFI then don't even worry about it! You'll never have a "DAC Report" to worry about if you never drive for a company that uses the service!

DAC, or whatever they may be called, only reports what carriers report to them. Carriers are limited to how they can report on drivers. I wish carriers could give more information, but for the most part, it is somewhat limited. One thing that is of interest to most carriers is the number of jobs a driver has had within the last 3 years, accidents, tickets, criminal history, etc., I have had a couple of things on my DAC that were incorrect, but for the most part it is pretty accurate.

Some of the mid sized carriers use them. I think that more will subscribe as we get more into the new CSA rules. For the most part, it is just easier and quicker to check employment when a company uses DAC. It will immediately tell a company if you have ever failed or refused a BAC and had any problems with any of your previous employers. Details are somewhat limited, but it should show up anything that may need closer scrutiny.

I am curious as to why you don't want to apply with a carrier that checks DAC?

There is some 2500 transportation companies that use DAC. It was started in 1981 as a means for transportation companies to check Drug and Alcohol Compliance. It grew to include other data like reason for termination and to satisfy FMSCA 391.23. Subscribing employers have a form they fill out when you terminate. They grew even more over the years to serve casino's, hospitals, education and financial companies.
