Do a search for Maxxforce here. Look for my comments. I'm a tech, not a driver, but I wouldn't buy one. The new ones out right now are alot better for us to work on, so we'll see about how reliable they are.

My company just got a few new 2012 Prostars with the Maxxforce 13 motors in them. My husband and I got one. So far we have been in it for a week and this is my impression.... at first it was a horrible gutless fuel guzzling monster, 4.4 M/g, that had virtually no Jakes. I freaked out joined this forum and read horror stories and considered moving back into my old truck... then we stopped at the first International dealer we saw and and had a chat with the service manager, he said that it sounded like the truck needed a 'software upgrade' and ran the truck in- under the warranty of course, all free- and they did just that, reprogrammed/updated the computer.
Now, this truck has about 2000 miles on it, and with the updated software is getting 7 mpg, and pulls pretty well, the jakes are unmatched for holding power, the regen system is pretty much independent and requires very little if any (none so far actually) user input- we were driving a 2010 Volvo with a cummins motor that constantly needed parked regens... even after a day of hard pulling.
So over all- while I am not super impressed awe inspired by this truck, I do give it a measure of respect and I certainly do not hate it with a passion, and I will not be moving into my old truck again. that being said, there are still a few odds and ends as far as programming is concerned that need to be addressed but the boss says we will do that at the dealer whom we got the trucks from- the same dealer that Should have set the trucks up before releasing them to us. -

The 2012 MF 11 and 13 are different and better so far than the first release generation. In all honesty, International did listen to a lot of customer and technician complaints about the first series. There have been a lot of design changes for better serviceability and reliability.
P.S. I still hate them though, LOL.truckmaster9400 and The Challenger Thank this. -
We also have three maxxforce's with the same problems (low mileage, no jake). Do you know what the dealer did or what the dealer name was? We're up in Canada and our dealers have tried a few things with no success. If you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance -
I'm sorry that maxxforce just can't keep up with a Detroit I proved this the other day similar loads I have a cascadia with a dd15 i was loaded 2k heavier I ran down the international going up a mountain after giving him a head start while I scaled.

Ok, so you are comparing apples to oranges?

If you have the VIN I can let you know if your units needs a recalibration. Do the jake brakes not work at all? - If they work but are delayed you need the parameters changed - they all come with a 4 second delay.blktop-bucanear Thanks this.
