Sounds like someone pulled the Opti-Idle fuse. Company drivers would do that because they didn't like the start/stop cycling. Where that fuse is on a Columbia...I couldn't tell you. Have the shop start there.

Do all of swift trucks have opti-idle? And i wanted to know do swift doctors that do the physical do they check for sleep apnea? If so, do they have like a payment plan and set u up to get the sleep study and machine like prime does?

Not all Swift trucks have Opti-Idle. They've been moving away from that in the past few years. When it's cold, there is a Webasto heater that, if used properly, can run you out of the truck in -5 degree weather. If it's hot, you idle. The trucks are not equipped with battery powered A/C.

The doctors at Swift...well, medical personnel, anyway....do a basic DOT physical. They note your height and weight, as well as your BMI, but, as far as I know, do not make recommendations regarding sleep studies. They do not have the facilities to do sleep studies like Prime does.

However, if you are interested in a company that does this and has a payment plan, Prime would be a strong contender.

The thing is, i am interested in prime also, but there might be an issue with my job history and possibly my background too. From dec 2008 to jun 2009 i did not have a job with in that time frame. will this be a problem at swift as well? Do swift charge you for over idle?

Swift does not charge money for over idle. You will get a message from your DM if your idle time exceeds a certain threshold. If you're idling because it's too hot to do otherwise, or if it's so cold you won't be able to start the truck back up...and your DM sends you a note about it, simply tell your DM he or she needs to get you to a more temperate region and your idle time will go down.

Prime has APUs and as long as your APU is functioning correctly, your idle time will be low. They are very aggressive about pushing the lease program.

As far as background and employment, each situation is individual. I cannot answer that question without knowing details that are none of my business.

Ok, as far as my background i have a misdemeanor larceny charge in april 1988 and misdemeanor poss. of marijuana charge in april 2000. Larceny charge i pulled price tag off a pair of tennis shoes for an associate i was with. We got fined and released. Pos. of marijuana i was charged and did community service, paid fine and the case dismissed. Like i asked in the other post would not being employed from dec.2008 to jun.2009 be a problem at swift? I was hired on the job i have now Jul. 1, 2009 and still working even though it's part time.

The unemployment period may not be a problem. Just have to somehow show you really were unemployed. From what I understand. I was unemployed for the two months immediately preceeding my original hire by Swift. But that was almost five years ago.

Ok thanks, what about the 2 charges, will swift give me a break on that? And how far back does swift go on driving record. I have my cdl-a just no up to date experience, 2yrs. no driving. I am sure i will have to surrender my cdl to dmv and just get permit to attend swift school right? Or will they accept a refresher course from any truck school?

CWC: All the companies I've looked at require notarized statements for periods of unemployment at the least. Check the details with the companies you're interested in because there are time limit and other differences.

    cwc Thanks this.

How long after your original hire by Swift did you get into the lease?
