My nephew is hauling grain, he is about the same age as you but he started sooner. It's dusty and dirty but you need to stay in state or close to the state until you are 21. My friend's son drives for him hauling grain as well. You could get into some long hauling in TX but it's doubtful. You punch a clock or fill out a time sheet and you don't have to keep a logbook for short hauls unless your employer wants you to.

I hauled treatment plant by-products to an applicator, lime from water treatment was all I hauled, I needed tanker but already had it. Those jobs might be easier to come by than grain hauling near a city like Houston.

If under 21, all commercial driving must be done within Texas. You can not haul hazardous materials that require placarding or drive double or triple trailer rigs.

the trucking school is just taking your money. let me explain. if you go now and get out in oct then it will be 6-7 months before you turn 21 and anybody willing to touch you will want you to do some kind of refresher schooling which means more time wasted. your best bet if your interested in driving is maybe just get a regular driving job until it's closer to your birthday , now this is just my opinion but personally i don't care for all that schooling and especially doing it twice. good luck in whatever you choose.

I would suggest you look at construction companies. One of them may put you in a dump truck.

Thanks for all the advice. Just wondering... why would they want you to go through refresher school? I know there are a lot of 18 and 19 year old trukers out there, and on their 21st birthday do they go through training again?

Also what about delivery jobs going between houston, amarillo, dallas... (all in state) how would you go about finding jobs like this?

Same thing some of the other guys were saying. Has to be instate driving.
Check sand and gravel company's, grain/ feed hauling company's. Construction company's.
Not much choice, most company's insurance will not touch you.
