Alright...anyone have advice on what turbo to run? I can tell the exhaust housing is small and restrictive just by driving my 2000 12.7 500. I used to drive a 98 12.7 470 with a non wastegated turbo that visibly had a much larger exhaust housing and spooled slower but seemed less restrictive.
forgot to add..this is in the truck listed in my sig below....i have dual external air cleaners and dual m100463 exhaust
I already have high flow mufflers and im planning on a bully bog programmer to get the timing where it should be. I would like advice on what turbo to get for better MPG, also a good exhaust manifold as mine has some hair line cracks in it.
Anyone have a part number for the Pitts. power turbo? or any other turbos that would be a good upgrade? I dont mind lag and i dont really care if i get more power or not, MPG is my main concern.
Thanks!

instead of the very expensive bully dog, why not contact Brad Wheeler in GA. & have him tweak your e.c.m. to 650 h.p. you will not have to change any hard parts. he can be found at cams diesel too. he has ad's on e-bay. on e.c.m. tunes.
kubotaorange76, x#1 and ECT379 Thank this. -
It's not the size of your turbo housing that counts, things are a bit more complicated than that. Best thing to do here is to find a performance shop that'll test different turbos on a dyno and adjust everything so you won't destroy a motor. (Detroits are 'spensive). If it was a cat, Mr Haney could help.
Anybody know a good performance shop for Detroits? -
They have done 850 hp with stock 14 L turbo, maybe worth trying? Try Diesel Talk Forum, much more Detroit knowledge than here.

i liked the bullydog because i dont want any more hp, just more timing for better mpg

Big Machine shop in Indianapolis, Ind. (Young and Sons) sells new high preformace turbos for detroit under $1000
-
thanks for the advice to read diesel engine trader forums
looks like im going to go with either garrett 23518588 for 625$
or b/w 171702 from truck pro for just under $600
i want to get my ecm programmed by someone,,,im leaning towards bran in thomaston since hes only an hour away from me
i would be happy with a 550 program 1850 or so torque, biggest thing in better throttle response and timing for MPG
do the custom ecm programs from brad and erich etc smoke much?bluebob Thanks this. -
I second the plug for Big Machine in Indy. You can get a BW for about $900 that will hold up to 650hp. Also get a manifold from PDI and then tune the ECM (I like bully dog) and you should be set to rock and roll !!!
