i fill ATF oil (automatic transmission fluid) in both systems
Oxbow Thanks this. -
You don't see anything on the truck side because many fluids can be used, and you should use what is already in the reservoir, be it engine oil, type F transmission fluid, or something else.
If you have a company shop, call and ask before doing anything.American-Trucker Thanks this. -
looks like transmission fluid its red and has a very sweet smell to it

In 90-s 15w40 oil was recomended, but I use any mineral ATF (dextron) becouse whent it is cold like now here with motor oil in PS I had to turn steering wheel gently from lock to lock twice before start!!!!

We used to use engine oil15W40 with no issues.
Now I see our shop has switched to ATF.
Same stuff you find in the car section. -

I recommend 15/40 it stays stable at a higher heat than ATF, and you do not need a special, additional fluid in the truck. Some drivers cause a lot of PS problems they are the ones that are always twitching the wheel.
If the system has ATF and it is burnt, then you want to go to 15/40 if it has ATF and it is bright red leave it alone.
When ever I had a system apart and drained I always added 15/40, especially when I was changing the PS pump. -
I use strickly Hydraulic fluid. It's non-detergent.
