Thats a tough one. It all depends on tractor cost, trailer cost and so on and so on. Big companys buy things at steep discounts so they have it better than a o/o. Do a search on costs and you'll see wide range.

Sounds low with fuel at near $4. If your getting 6MPG and fuel is $4 a gallon your fuel cost alone is over .66 per mile. $1.50 - .66 only leaves .84 for everything else.

Well do a search because theirs tons of info on here. I dont know what payments you have and so on so you could be right or wrong. add every thing up and divide it by a fair milage number and that will get you close. 1.50 a mile isnt enough though

I don't know what your exact payments are but I will use mine to give you a idea of what you should look at. I use $5 fuel and 2500 miles a week to get my base numbers.

    Truck payment $.08 a mile
    Trailer payment $.08 a mile
    All insurance $.09 a mile
    fuel $.90 a mile
    Maintenance $.20 a mile
    Tags $.02 a mile

This only takes in to account all know, set costs. You would need to also add something for breakdowns. I don't know your specific situation but this is what I came up with. Again, these numbers are what you need just to break even and keep the truck running. There is nothing in there to put in your pocket.

What do consider cheap wage? I pay myself $0.40 just to fly under IRS radar

$2500 per month. It's all I need to cover the bills at the house along with the Fiance` wages and also give us $500 extra each month.

It also does not include any payment from a FSC.

    ETA:

with $30K financed for a truck and trailer for about $650/month.

With a $2000 truck payment, that number goes up to about $1.62/mile.

    donkeyshow72 Thanks this.

if your gonna run a reefer you better get atleast a min of $1.85. Remember you have added weight with a reefer unit...added cost with reefer fuel..and added cost to your maint account for reefer repairs.. I wont run a reefer load for under $2.00 a mile and the brokers i have worked with for over 20 yrs know that... My FSC just went up to 51 cents per mile or on say a 1500 mile trip around $800 bucks added on to the rate... ya cant cut yourself short because you just never know these days..
