Between Distro Centers wouldn't be bad. But I wouldn't want to be a driver/merchandiser. I thought I hated my job when I stocked groceries, but those guys looked more miserable than me.

This was in 1998, at that time, or transport drivers were getting 35 centa amile, and all benefits, that all other employees got. Yes Pepsico hasan awesome benefit packege.

i had a horrible experience working for pepsi, it wasnt that bad of a job but management was horrible and have all been fired since then

i was only 18 and was an order picker (very physical) and yard jockey

one night a supervisor who wasnt suppose to be on a forklift and was doing union work was carrying a 1000lbs + skid of 12 pack cans and hit me from behind as i was wrapping a skid

i blacked out and my back was all messed up......when i came to they tried telling me i couldnt go to the clinic, thinking i was young and dumb probably....they didnt know i had actually read the contract, my dad was a teamster for 20 something years and my grandpa for over 40 years

ended up being off work for like 3 weeks

I worked for Pepsi about 10 years ago. Worked there for three months. A good Teamster job but I did not like working 12 to 14 hours and driving about 30 miles. I also did not like being a stocking clerk for the stores. Most of the drivers there thrived on it. Not me. Just the way I felt about it. Granted, it is better than any OTR company driver position. Mainly for the fact that you were paid from the time you clocked in until you clocked out. We also got overtime after 8 hours. The pay was around $18.00 per hour I think. If I had to choose between Pepsi and OTR, my choice would be Pepsi. I don't want to work for pennies when I drive and give up free time when I get to where I need to go. You seem to have found a good job. Congratulations. You are one of the lucky ones. Good luck in getting that permanent position.

    Drive safe

We have two guys working for us that use to work for Pepsi - they said it wasn't bad but that they wouldn't go back.

They were both merchandisers' and drove the bay trucks (side unload w/2 wheeler). Their biggest complaint was dealing with the customers at the local stores, collecting money, etc. They didn't mind the work so much but did complain about hours, routes, management, and a few other things. They both worked at the Dallas plant so I don't know how that compares to Mesquite.

I've talked to some of their tractor trailer drivers who pick up the bottles over in Garland that ran out of Mesquite. I don't know if that's what they are hiring for but it's an overnight shift & they run as many loads as they can (drop/hook).

If your willing to do whatever it takes to get started and build up seniority then I would go for it. I believe it would be a better deal than anything else you might find around here. I am constantly searching the job postings and most of them only offer $10.00 - $12.00 an hour. I don't know how anyone survives on that.

Did they have you do a phone interview and a face to face? How long did they wait to tell you that you didn't have the job? I was just curious because I applied and had two interview with them.

I am a pepsi mechanic and i am leaving my job as a truck mechanic to get behind the wheel. i started driving for the company part time 6 months ago when i first got my class a altho i have been a truck mechanic with them for over four years. i filled in as a side bay driver as well as an otr transport driver. the work is hardcore on the side bay truck but the pay averages just under a grand a week depending on the case count. thats alot more than i make right now. the transport drivers at my location make about 50% more than what i make now and like an earlier poster said, Monday threw Friday, drop and hook. if i get the job with transport, i would be working part time-at a max of 32 dot hours (assuming nothing breaks lol) i can make the same check that i make now and get a three day weekend to finish pursuing my degree not to mention the ability to make more because of the experience under my belt. either way, swinging wrenches is not getting it done. i interview on tuesday
