Experience with YRC ( includes YRC, New Penn, USF Reddaway and Holland

I'm not real sure about local. They get about the same treatment as the line haul guys. Fontana is a bigger yard but you will still probably be on the extra board. You might get to work on the dock if there are no runs for you. I've seen the local drivers usually jump right in and get a lot of hours at Reddaway that is. The pay is kinda low to start at Reddaway and doesn't top out to high either. We do get a raise every year.

If Fontana is where you are going to be close to then you have quite a few options trucking wise. Everything from UPS, FedEx, YRC, Old Dominion, Conway, Vitran Express, Oak Harbor Freight, Estes, R&L carriers. Of course they have terminals in LA and Orange county too. Really to many to list plus several OTR companies in Fontana.

I am considering applying to USF Holland, Old Dominion, Saia, and Con-Way for a local driving job in the Chicagoland area/North lanes. Anybody have some advice as to who has the most reliable work load and best organization? I've been over-the-road for a year and a few months. Thanks for any input/experience you can help with...

 

I heard Conway is pretty tough. Old Dominion I hear is a great company. Saia is good too but a little unorganized from what I remember, that could have changed though. I'll just cut to the chase. If you want out of OTR, any LTL is better. If you want union, ABF, YRC (Holland is part of YRC) and I'm sure there are others in Chicago. Out west where I am the union has become pretty weak. If I had my pick of an LTL company it would be ABF, Old Dominion, Estes or R&L Carriers.

 

You have several options in the Chicago area. I'm a road driver for YRC Freight outta Chicago and we are hiring right now. It's not your typical OTR driving job as we are typically home every other day. Holland in Joliet is hiring city and road drivers. ABF is hiring city drivers as well

FedEx Freight didn't used to put you on the fork lift, did they? Is that something kinda new or has it always been that way? I remember running with those guys when I worked at Yellow and they had it good from what they said. Then again so did I. I really hope the rest of the LTL fleets don't start in with that. I heard R&L is doing it now too.

 

Well I'm glad to know FedEx is not an option anymore. So I just say no to Conway, FedEx and R&L. LOL! At my yard they will give the local guys the option to load and unload if it's slow but they don't have to do it.
