wiring problems are common for Volvo, MAN, Iveco and DAF XF.

But after 2007 I see the same problems with MACK and Renault trucks.... yep, Volvo group

Early Volvo F, FH and WG before 1998 were bullet proof, especially F12 and WG with 123 engine. D12A was good too.

But in 1998 newer VN and FH of '98 version and later Version-2 are too complicated. So wiring problem appeare!

I have the same truck and was having the same problem for several months. Been to the Dealer several times,
but they couldn't seem to find the problem. Well, I found the problem with mine. The ECU (mounted by the
engine block) has a wire harness that aging wires separate or fray at the harness causing erratic connections.
My gauges would go crazy, the truck would stall, I get multiple error codes, and is hard to start.
This is simply because the ECU is not receiving the data from various sensors continuously. The ECU monitoring
circuits do just that, monitor all inputs from sensors. If after a short period of time, any particular sensor fails
or stops giving data, then the ECU will attempt to compensate (LIMP MODE), register error codes, and the truck
may fail all together. Check the wire harness at the ECU for broken or frayed wires. Also check all ground to chassis
locations. I have found this to be a common problem in these trucks. I have seen this in more than 20 trucks
in the last month alone. Many shops wont touch it because they may not have the diagnostic equipment to connect
to a Volvo. Volvo's are sensitive. The truck will continue to run so long as basic parameters can be maintained,
but as soon as voltages vary too much, or fuel pressures are inconsistent, or DATA received is too erratic, then the
ECU will shut down the truck, for safety. It will drive a mechanic crazy and cost the truck owner many dollars.
If the truck is old or high mileage, it is not uncommon for wires to begin fraying. This happens naturally and mostly
due to extreme normal temps under the hood.
It is good practice on older or high mileage trucks to check your wire harnesses and plugs for cracks, burns or frays.
Not just in a Volvo. The Volvo 600 and 700 series trucks suffer from old dry cracked and frayed wires.
I am actually making a partial new harness to the ECU on my truck right now. Did this for a friend several weeks ago.
It fixed all of his Phantom error codes and he is hauling steady without problems. Go hand over hand through the
harness and check all wires and connectors. This is time consuming, but can save thousands of dollars in guess-work
    repairs. Hope this helps.

I spent 1300 they told me 5000.00 to rewire cab which I find just down right stupid does anyone know any good electrical shops in central nj and please don't tell me a dealer there idiots.. and are only after the 115.00 a hour labor rate and will milk you dry... only the left side of my dash goes out...

Hi Slow, Im experiencing a similar problem when I wash the truck, my tractor abs lights up and then my keypad wont allow me to shift out of neutral. Where is the green wire? Im trying to figure out where my wiring problem is, thanks.

I've had same problem. In rain or after wash the dash would act up. Never drivability problems. The consensus opinion on this forum was that water was getting to connections on pass thru. Before last truck wash I've got 2 plastic bags, and wrapped them around those bundles of wires. No problem after wash, and no problem in several downpours.

Thanks for your input. Is that on the driver side firewall?
