9400 has a metal cab, Prostar has a "plastic" cab like a transtar or 8600. The doors never seal right and they're cramped. Worse, most of them came with the Maxxforce motor which is gutless and very unreliable. We have one 10 year old 9400 which we're going to keep till the wheels fall off and a bunch of 09 Transtars which are all being disposed of by the end of the year.
Unfortunately they're being replaced by Freightliner M2s with DD13s and Eaton automatics. The DD13s are more powerful than the "passed by an Amish" Maxxforce but that's the only power contest they'll win. Not looking forward to the coming winter with those rough shifting Eatons. Whoever the genius is at Freightliner that puts self canceling turn signals on tractors needs to be flogged with a CDL manual until the stupid falls out.Gearjammin' Penguin and Mike2633 Thank this. -
I drove a Prostar at my last job. Cummins instead of Maxxforce. It wasn't terrible, but we got them new and it only had 50k when I left, so it hadn't had enough time to develop any bad habits. Best thing about it was the turn radius. It could just about turn around and kiss its own ***.
Never drove a Vision, but I loved the CH613 that was my first truck. Rough ride, but it was tough as nails.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Yeah you're right the Internationals you have to really slam the doors real good to get them to seal. Our 8600s I do not think have the Maxxforce motor in them, but I could be wrong on that, they don't have the little badge that says it's there. I know that Maxxforce 13 was like the worst diesel motor ever made and Transport America had some and got rid of them after 2-3 years they just got rid of all those trucks.

Now if they could just get all the electronic systems to work together consistently... -

I haven't seen one in forever, but my all time favorite truck has to be a Mack Superliner. I rode with my dad in his a lot as a kid. And living way out in the country like we did, my brothers and I could hear it bellowing up the road a couple of miles away. That was our cue to run to the drive and meet him, or if we'd been misbehaving we knew to run for the hills before Mom could tell him what we'd been up to.

i got an 2012 prostar eagle high rise and really like it ...very comfortable and quiete ...lotsa room and well layed out .
maxxforce moter is very quiete and other than a blown egr cooler line it hasnt given me any problems .
pulling power is a joke tho and when i get to a hill i just get in the right lane and stay there hoping idont get rear ended or roll down the hill backwards ...i come up the east side of donner with it every week with a heavy produce load and have been waitin for it to blow up .
the only redeeming feature of my maxxforce is that when i get to nevada i can set the cruise at 75 .
dont worry all you 62 mph governed drivers youll catch me on the next hill lol.Mike2633 and LoneCowboy Thank this. -
For day cabs I gotta say the cascadia with their new auto is my favorite. Yeah its a bit underpowered on the highway but for city driving that truck made my work day a lot easier. Just beware of the tag axle version as it will get stuck in half an inch of snow. Otherwise it's a good truck with only some minor hang ups. Probably Volvo's after that cause they give better steering feedback than any other truck I've driven.
