You're mixing up things a bit here. A DOT-reportable accident is a commercial vehicle accident that required a tow truck, ambulance, or coroner. If none of the above arrived, it is not, and never will be a DOT-reportable accident.

However, the accident may not show up on your MVR if the damages were below a certain threshold. If they do cross that threshold, then the accident can show up. This is on your motor vehicle record -- just like if you were in a personal car -- not your PSP.

Yes, crossed up my wires a bit there. I'm thinking there used to be a dollar value years ago but no longer. DOT rules are getting like the IRS, too much to keep track of and too many little things to get caught on. For instance the ambulance is not an absolute, only requires "Bodily injury to a person who, as a result of the injury, immediately receives medical treatment away from the scene of the accident,"

I had a truck overturn in severe weather right down the road from one of our terminals. A representative of the company was almost immediately on scene and took me to the hospital for stitches. No ambulance involved, but that qualified as immediate treatment away from the scene. I'd imagine that is not so common, but it is an important distinction.

Then the issue of MVR is somewhat a matter of how the police handle it. Different states report things differently, as well as different localities. In my case nothing ever showed up on my MVR or anywhere else. If a qualified officer should decide to do a DOT inspection then, there could be points assessed also. Such inspections are usually only done on impounded vehicles after fatalities.

And then to have remember all the details under time of stress.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken, your truck mysteriously righted itself and you drove it back to the yard overturn=towaway=recordable accident. Stitches or no stitches, ambulance or no ambulance.

***EDIT*** I'm not trying to troll you here, just making a point... your example doesn't work for the scenario.

I said nothing about the disposition of the truck, you're making an assumption. I was only showing how immediate medical treatment does not require transport via ambulance. The truck had to be uprighted and towed, the trailer was hooked to and driven away. Don't know what was done on the company end of things as far as reporting but cops took no report. It was debated whether or not it was a tornado that overturned seven trucks all in a row. Cops said they had enough to worry about, and they had enough of a mess of their own to get the roadway cleared up. Details with photo of me on the front page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sometime around Aug 1998 well before all the CSA debacle began.
