Good evening folks, how are ya? I'm posting here hoping to gain a bit of insight into a company. In a few months, I'll hopefully be starting my first trucking job in a training program for Choice Reefer Systems, based in Belleville Ontario. It seems like a good mid sized company, but I thought I'd see if anybody in the business knew anything about them. What I know about them is that they run Canada only, mostly west coast runs. The training program is 7 months long, and I will start out washing trucks, loading trailers, shunting in the yard, then doing local drops with the trainer, a few long haul trips with the trainer, then eventually I will be out on my own. I just thought I'd see if anybody out there has any personal experience with the company, and might be able to tell me what they are like? Thanks guys :)

Don't know much about them other than the fact they've been around a long time. The training program you described sounds like an old school approach which is good - learn everything from the ground up

I don't know much about them either but as K-Jack said sounds like you'll be getting good old school training which is lacking in this industry. Nose to the grind stone...they might make a real trucker outta you! Make your own luck!

Thanks for the insight. I didn't realize companies used to take a slow approach to training like this, as opposed to the "meat grinder" style apparently used by the super companies in the US. As much as I'd love to get out on the road right away, I'm glad the company will gradually build me up like that. I hear stories from places like Swift and Werner where a new trainee is sent on the road with a trainer who only has six months experience. The trainer seems like a good guy. Very nice, very old school, and I believe he's been in the business for quite some time. It seems like I have a good opportunity ahead of me.

It's what's really dragging this industry down. Training like you've described you're about to receive is a breathe of fresh air. It's how I was trained. Learn all you can from these folks. You're on the right path.

    thedarkcanuck Thanks this.
