Sorry for the lengthy posts by the way. This is my first forum and I'm still learning how to condense my words into something manageable so I don't bore you guys and gals to tears.

Well.... they found the driver of the minivan that lost the mattresses and box springs. NO charges filed.

I stand by my statement. I don't run NJ anymore, and I can't find any good reason for that POS state to exist

That's BS! Should be charged with failure to properly secure a load. Shouldn't make any difference if its something on a flatbed truck or on the roof of a car, if you loose it, you should pay the consequences if it causes an accident and someone gets hurt.

Exactly what I thought when I read it. That's usually the way of it though.

No argument there. In some jurisdictions since the unsecured load caused an accident that resulted in a fatality the driver would also be charged with involuntary manslaughter or negligent homicide.

It should be the same case across the board no matter what jurisdiction. If someone is too lazy to tie down their load properly or too cheap to hire someone to do the move properly, than the blood should be on their hands. I don't think a day goes by that I don't see a mattress flapping in the breeze on top of some minivan. Same goes for the idiots usually with the drivers left arm out the window holding the front down.

Same goes for the idiots driving Corollas with 2×4's going from the backseat and sticking 4 feet out the passenger window, resting on the side mirror with the guy holding them in place with only his elbow. And yes I agree, if that load fell off a flatbed and killed a car driver, this story would end much differently.

Good! He should be held accountable. I'm sure it will pretty much be a slap on the wrist but I'm interested to see what happens.
