By contract directly do you mean work for the pits or who? Only way to be successful in the first business is be reliable and maintain your truck. That's what I do here in Texas. I have 11 bellies and 6 ends. One truck is tough especially when it's slow because you hold no weight with anyone to keep you busy.

    Arispe Thanks this.

Cory, where in TX are you based out of? I own a few belly's and ends myself and am looking into hauling in other cities for these next few months. I'm based in San Antonio

Have you leased the Belly's already? Maybe talk with whom ever you're looking to haul for, before sinking money into something you have no work for, never leap before you look

I'm also interested in the topic. I'm relocating to Austin TX in Summer and considering buying a tractor and trailer. I had a day cab in 1995, pulled a guy's belly dump and made $51/hr to the truck with $1.05 diesel. That was in Minnesota. Just on here searching for info about Texas and various options there in Austin area.

I didn't know it was so seasonal in TX. I know the oil industry is hurting.

We are in San Marcos Texas and it slows down right around thanksgiving until about February usually. The state letting is in September so they do bids and award jobs around the end of the year but they don't start right away usually. We rarely do any oilfield stuff anymore with the way things are going. We used to do tons of oilfield stuff.
