KB manages drivers as rookies. You may have 5-10-15yrs OTR, to them you are a rookie and will be treated as such. The tactic of sending someone out to a parked truck with a sleeping driver is legendary and is all you need to know about this company. Despite efforts in their advertisements to fix their brand and appear 'great guys', they are bottom feeders and for a while they will snag drivers with their guaranteed min pay, its a scam as the OP describes. Thanks for a well written and informative piece, good luck going forward.

That is called shortest miles, zip code to zip code, very common in all of trucking...

With all due respect, I worked for them. Not one time during my almost 1 year there did they mention "zip code to zip code". It was simply explained that if you drive over 2500 miles, you are converted to mileage pay. I understand the difference between HHG, Practical and Hub miles. If you look at K&B's website, they still offer a guarantee and also have a CPM pay chart, so this is still their system. They are also still giving misleading rates, as, again these rates include the 4 cents per diem.

If K&B does zip code to zip code, that's fine. Prospective drivers should still be made aware that they will likely never be paid more than the guarantee, so they'd better make sure . just seems like they want to pay a flat salary but want to lure in drivers that like to run hard, making them think they can make more.

Well I'm still appreciative for them giving me a job and getting me home when I needed to, however their operation as a whole causes me great concern as it is unsafe and dishonest to drivers which is what ultimately made me leave. I got very tired of having to battle my company to stay legal and get rest. K&B simply wants too much control of the truck for my tastes. Literally every single time I needed to shut down because of bad roads during the winter/fall I was able to send them to the state DOT site to verify the conditions of the roads. They would still pressure me to move. This is not a company to come to if you can't stand up for yourself and say "No".

But you were the one complaining about driving 750 miles and ONLY being paid for 700... So I question that you understand that K&B does NOT pay actual miles, but HHG which is zip code to zip code.

Who is this "someone" that gets sent out to the truck to check on the driver?

If it's truck stop personnel, since when do people likely working for not much above minimum wage volunteer to be a messenger service?

If that's the case, then what do they do if there are no other K&B drives around?

From what I've seen on YouTube, they will send cops out to do a "wellness check", saying they haven't been able to call the driver, etc.

why havent any drivers reported this behavior to the dot? Harrassing drivers while on their 10 hr break forcing them to get behind the vehicle controls to answer door knockers is a violation of logging rules. Also, logging line 5 under orders of company dispatch is a violation. It's called "personal conveyance" for a reason, it doesn't cover driving to a truck stop as ordered by a dispatcher
