I was reading the Mercer threads, and they seem to be happy with 2-3K gross....that's pulling flatbed OTR...soo...that should tell you something about the current market environment.....

I would say hold in there. I know that it seems slow right now, and it is... for the most part. It will pick back up. Trust me, there are lulls in hauling cans, but when it hits again mid late June/July, it will be steady till about Feb then slow down a little bit. I, for one, enjoy the rails. just seems to make my life easier. when it gets slow, I tend to take that time and spend it with the family, then work like a mad man when it picks back up. Good and bad, that's how you gotta take it.

I've only been hauling cans for 2 years, but last year, there really didn't seem to be a "busy" season all year...freight was low and steady (but the line haul was about 20% higher than this year, not to mention the FSC!!!).

I for one, am NOT expecting a substantial rush this year.......

Boss is encouraging everyone to take their vacation time or days off now, before it picks up in the summer. I had today off as a personal day, won't be off again (hopefully) until June when I take my vacation so the truck can go in the shop.

Well, things have truly slowed down to a crawl!!!!!!! Still running every day, but only one load, weekly settlements have gone from $3,400 to $2500, to $2,000 to last week.....1K for 4 runs......Took a personal day last week and will be taking a week off in two weeks.....

I hope things improve in the summertime, but still don't expect anything big this year.....

I would be happy to get $2.00 mile and make $2000 a week. Only run two weeks at a time and take one -two off. Hard for me to find loads that pay more than $1.40 - $1.60. I just let them stay on the board.
