I wasn't referring to benefit of the doubt in the context of the court setting. I was referring to giving individual enforcement officers the benefit of the doubt in general. Your following statement seems to lump "cops" into one bucket, so to speak, and seems to brand them all as dishonest by referring to how "they" behave. Again, I don't disagree with you that what you describe happens at times. I am simply saying that I think it is just as unfair to brand "cops" (generalized) as dishonest as it is to brand "truckers" as slobs with no regard for rules, regulations, or common decency.
Are OTR drivers permanently exempted from jury duty?

As long as cops lie in order to encourage the type of response they'd like to hear, they cannot be trusted. Encouraging a K9 to provide a false positive so they can claim PC after consent to search was denied is another example.
If a cop wants my respect, he needs to act in a respectable manner towards me...and I have a difficult time respecting anyone who is not honest or trustworthy. I've met some real stand-up guys who wear the badge...but I've met far more that I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them. It's about the same with truckers...which is why I don't consider myself one. I don't look, smell, or act like the truck drivers I see out and about. I've always preferred "Freight Transportation Engineer" as a job title, as it is far more descriptive of what I do. -
How do you know he encouraged a false positive? Have you trained with a drug dog before? I have as a Security Officer.
Was this incident in a POV or truck?
Look man, I get what you are saying and don't want to start a fight. I'm just playing devil's advocate.
A good cop won't even have to ask to search because he's already seen something that gives him PC, so this debockle never comes up. -
Hopefully going in person will let them see i am genuine and not just trying to avoid out of laziness.texasbbqbest Thanks this. -
More about protecting the rest of us than punishment imo. I don't care if they suffer or not: as a society we just need them to not be there anymore to continue spreading their cancer thru our ranks.

Ive been selected a few times for Jury work. Im honored. being a trucker or not matters not a whit. Especially if it is a major federal courthouse case requiring you to prepare to turn over 6 weeks of your life to sit on the jury in the near future.
I generally have a doctor write a short medical history explaining to the judge why I am not a good fit for a jury work. That usually takes care of that right quick. And being forthright and very open with your opinionated thoughts as to how the case should come out during jury selection usually dirtys it up for one lawyer side or the other and there is no objection to being excused and not selected. -
I think I am on the permanent do not call him list. In California anytime you are arrested and in carcerated, a Magistrate reviews the arrest to see if there was probable cause for the arrest. Last time I was called I ended up on a panel, I was asked about the defendants guilt, and if I could listen to all the evidence before making a decision. I said no, I knew a Judge had already determined there was probable cause for the arrest so chances are he is guilty. I was dismissed, to,d by the Judge I was lucky he was no holding me in contempt, and dismissed all 125 prospective jurors in the court room. The Judge said I unfairly prejudiced the jurors. Have not been called since, that was years ago.

In Maine all you have to do is not register to vote.... So I try not to gripe about the President. Because I really had little say to begin with.
So Un-American, I know. But yeah... I'm a cynic, and to me it's like dropping a bleach tab into a cesspool. Why am I wasting my bleach? I've got whites that need a good scrub. -
In California the counties get a list of licensed drivers that reside there. That is the pool they choose from. For some reason I was chosen randomly 6 years in a row, I don't think it is as random as they say. I am just lucky I have never had to serve on a jury over a lengthy trial.

Then again, you've got the gov of Virginia trying to allow felons to vote, so I'd assume they're probably back in the jury pool there, too...
