Yeah, I like the matte clear and all the rust patina.
I think it's in really good shape. I didn't even ask if it was running when it was parked. I want to be suprised when I get it home and start tinkering on it.
This is just something for me to work on on the weekends.

Does this include dually pickups pulling fifth wheel campers?
I have never seen pickups and campers pull in in MD?

Very cool and definitely worth the time and effort!

Have you checked with U-Haul? A buddy of mine rented a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and one car trailer not too long ago. Not sure on price but would definitely use less fuel than a box truck so factor that in. And on that route no worries about scales. I wouldn't even pull in

I haven't called U-haul. I'll check on that. Definitely would be better on fuel.

I am also a uhaul dealer along with my other businesses.
Out here in the east they will only let me rent the pickup trucks on what they call in town rentals only.
It maybe different where you are.
The smallest truck I can rent out of town or one way is what uhaul calls a TM.
It's basically a little single rear wheel 10 foot box truck.
I suppose you could rent the pickup for in town and run down there and back and just return to the same dealer you picked it up from.
I'm thinking they would really bang you on the per mile charge though.
I'll ask my wife when she gets back what the in town per mile rate is here in the east and then check back in.

    Checked with my wife .
Uhaul in town rate for a pickup here in the east is 19.95 a day plus .59 cents per mile.
I don't think that will work for you especially when you add in the rental of the car trailer which is about 59.95 a day.

Thanks Hulld, I appreciate you checking on that. No doubt the pricing will be comparable here. I'm ok with the quote I got from Penske.

willys 3.jpg OK, It's time for an update. I left out around Thursday evening at 23:00 and got back yesterday at 1600. Total miles driven was 1700 miles. Total money spent on trip including truck rental, fuel, lost wages for missing 2 days work and 1 night in a hotel.
    Truck rental....456.59
    Fuel .............. 341.74
    Lost wages....340.00
1 night hotel....79.00 (I actually only stayed for 4 hours sleep)

    Total cost.......1217.33

While I may or may not have saved any money I'm glad I went and got it myself. Now that I've done it one time I don't think I'll ever do it again. Think I'll just let the professionals do it if there's ever a next time.

I do have to add that while I loaded the truck exactly like Penske said to (I watched their video on how to load a vehicle) and after driving about 50 miles into Louisiana (very bad roads) I pulled into a Loves to fuel up and check the truck. I found one of the tire straps just hanging over the trailer. If you were anywhere near a 50 mile radius of there you would have heard a load snapping noise. I had two other secondary safety chains and another strap not counting the other tire strap holding the truck on but for the rest of the trip I never did feel comfortable that I wouldn't loose the truck off the hauler. Again, glad I did it but never do it again.
