Ok let's try this again.... anyone seeking info about the flatbed division this is for you. I just made the switch, but if I don't know the answer I'll find someone who does. I woo attempt to update as I learn, but most personal experiences will be in my personal thread. Maybe this time it can be kept respectful.

As I have written elsewhere, my primary interest in flatbeds is the exercise component. I am old enough - I'm 62 - to understand that my body might not be up to the tasks, so I would love to hear from older drivers about their experiences with the physical aspects of the daily grind. This surely isn't a "younger" man's job or the company would put age restrictions on it, so what is the tipping point?

I'll see if I can find that out... tarping is the most physically demanding part, especially if you have to get the big ones out, but still not bad

As mentioned in other threads, flatbedding was my first interest. I will be watching this thread for ORD and Da1's experiences before making a decision. Three questions ORD: How much sitting have u done since switching over? Have the settlements been decent? Have u been across country or are there certain freight lanes for flatbeds?

I will say this about flats, and I have 2 1/2 years pulling a skate board. You get the higher paying loads, and you don't sit under the load. That means more money, and more miles. As for tarping, its not hard at all. You get the forklift to put the tarp on the top, unroll the tarp and put the bungies on. With time you develop a system and it doesn't take long. That's my two cents. I start orientation next week do don't know about prime, but I have driven for other outfits. So if you have any flatbed questions just ask and ill be happy to try and answer them.

We haven't sat long waiting on a load, maybe an hour... We did over 5000 miles one time in the 4 weeks I've been out here. Flatbed doesn't do as many miles as reefer. We are given plenty of time to get where were goin. This load for instance, was picked up on Monday in Spanish Fork Utah, three drops, one in Chicago, one in Burns Harbor Indiana, and one in Milan Michigan. We have til tommorow, Thursday, to be in Michigan. Right now were in Indiana dropping.
I've been from new jersey to Utah, down to Pharr Texas, up to Michigan. We do go to California. We shall see where we pick up next. Hoping to take it back to SPRINGMO this week.

I've decided to rope down my tarps, don't like bungies. We roped this load, n got complimented on how good it looked. I agree that if you develop a system it won't take nearly as long. Some places we go actually have special devices that place the tarps for you, I like those places lol

I started flatbedding last week, I'm 56. No medications, 5ft 9, 170 lbs? Let's just say noone will have to rock me to sleep tonight, :)
Tarps are heavy but manageable. Today after I had already managed to get both of my tarps on top of the load the forklift driver said he would have put them up there for me.?/..?? Thanks!

Think alot of it will be establishing a routine. Knowing when and where to place things. Working smarter not harder.

Never fool with an "older man"!!!!!!!!!!
