Hello fellow prime drivers, its been a while since I posted, mostly because I was at prime orientation and went thru all phases of their training, even tho I already had my cdl-a and some one here told me I would need to surrender my cdl to dmv and start over. When I got to prime that was not the case. The lady in charge of the orientation told me that I did not have to give up my cdl I had originally for 9yrs, they would have just put me thru the training with my cdl. It is all good and no hard feelings on the poster who told me that. I did call to see if it was true what I was told and the recruiter I was assigned to told me that I would have to get training and I assumed that I was to surrender my cdl and start over with primes training. Anyway I started orientation on the 12th of march and got my truck the 1st week in june. I waited about 2 or 3 days after upgrade. I got a red 2013 Cascadia lightweight with apu. even tho I am a company driver, I could have still got a fullsize truck, but I would have to let head of operations or something like that, do not want to mention names, to let that person know that I wanted a fullsize and that I would have to pay my hotel room $50.00 a day I think for how ever long it would take them to get me a fullsize truck. The wait could be from 1 day to 3 weeks or u could go back home and wait till they call u or u call them to check on the status to get u in a fullsize. For me the pay is a whole lot better than my last job. I was not getting a lot of miles when I first got my truck. Maybe they were seeing how I handle the loads I were given to maybe set me up for bigger loads or maybe that was all they had in the area at that time. I did start getting a little better miles as the weeks went on. But for me, its not a big deal to get more than 2200 to 2400 per week. I am comfortable with that. Pay is not what I expected. What I see on my paystub, excuse me settlement is not even close to the cents per mile I supposed to get for the lightwt I drive. Unless the per diem makes up for the other cents per mile I am missing. I don't know, But this will not deter me from still working for prime. Until I have completed my goal and that is to run til that 1 yr. is up and training is paid. I might stay longer than the year if the pay get better. I will make that decision when it comes. To all persons planning to go with prime this is only my experience at prime, yours will differ except for the training. One more thing, about the sleep study. I pass the sleep study, I don't need the cpap, but even if you pass it you still have to pay the cost of the sleep study. $625.00 at $40.00 a week for 14 weeks then I think the last payment out of check is $25.00. I went on hometime from Monday 24th, will be hittin road again fri morn. You only get 4 days at home with the truck, so if you stay out 5,6,7 or 8 weeks an want to take all your days for hometime, you will have to go home without the truck and they will give u a different truck when you get back to prime. So I guess that is it for now. Thanks for reading.

Your rate per mile is the total of what you see on the settlement rate plus the per-diem rate. That should equal what they told you. It's not a bad deal as long as you take the standard deduction on your taxes. The per-diem is untaxed, so you're shielding that amount from the taxman.
Example. 41-cpm = 33-cpm (settlement amount - taxable) + 8-cpm (per diem - nontaxable)
If you have questions about that, get in touch with your payroll person. Your first full year should having you gross around $50k before taxes. -
Depending on your fm your miles should increase if ur fm knows what they are doing and set you up right. I was only getting around 2200 starting out and now im running about 3500 a wk give or take a few miles.

Yeah, Ip I kinda figured that was the case about the pay. And bigox3k, did you read my post. I said I am fine with 2200 to 2400 a week. I am not trying to kill myself just to make a few hundred more bucks.
Ganja Thanks this. -
