Airlines dont lease their planes from themselves and charge 4 times what its worth.

If it was a true lease and not a fake make a driver feel good "your a owner operator" scam, then you would be able to sign that truck on with any company.

Your nothing more than a company driver that has been drinking the company kool aide and tricked into making their truck payments at an extortion rate.

Oh, and the 3 trucks and 10 trailers that were run by myself, my brother and dad were leased. But we also owned the leasing company that owned the equipment for tax and liability purposes.

I don't fault prime for giving some the appearance of ownership. If somebody wan't to pay you to do their job. Whose to stop them. I don't know who would want to do it, but it seems Prime can't keep them from volunteering their services. What a company :)

Has anybody here ever finished a prime lease? And what's the real payment per week $1700 seems a little high.

They in no way imply that a lease-op "owns" their truck. It's quite obvious that it's owned by Success Leasing Inc., although all of the leases do contain a schedule that indicates the worth of the tractor by mileage and lease month. The operator is invited to obtain financing at any point in the lease to buy the tractor. Depending on the market for used tractors, one can obtain a very good deal on their tractor. In no way is the OP "volunteering" his services... if he runs his business well, it can be quite lucrative compared to what company drivers make.

Nope. That's an expense... and if he controls that one well, he'll make money. And remember... I'm estimating that cost per week from "what I've heard." I never went over to leasing to inquire about what a KW would run... I'm not much of a fan of recent Cummins engines.

I know a lot of folks who have... including me. I also know that the failure rate, while lower than the overall rate for the industry is quite high. That's why any of the newbs who ask me, I'll steer them to a Cascadia because the weekly cost is quite a bit lower. The freight revenue is there to make it work... it becomes a deal that is dependent on the operator's ability to contain his costs.

So Mr. Pony are you saying if he gets super good fuel mileage. He will not only be able to pay for the fuel, and the truck expenses that are automatically taken out. He will even have a grand or more for moma and the bills at home? If so where do I sign up. This is beautiful!!!

Not for IP but I think the op never read your thread on leasing at prime. He doesn't even have a year at prime. He started on 11-22-13 according to his forum posts. I've got 10 years and enough capitol in the bank and i'm still trying to build another $1500 before I come to prime. Having read your thread completely I want about $4500 in the bank in a business account ready before I come there. I have been researching and running my company truck like it was mine for almost a year now. Think the op is way in over his head. Should he fail and I would say he probably will, prime shoulders some of that blame for allowing him to sign that lease. Just my 2 cents though.

Well, I'd agree guys... but they take the approach that we're all big boys capable of understanding what we're getting into (basically the deep end of a shark filled pool.) Unfortunately, I think many of these guys let their greed overcome their better sense. My own recommendation is at a minimum 2 or 3 years on the company side to figure things out... as a minimum to sleep on it.
