First week or two shock........ you're definately not the first.
You completely upended your life, so that is to be expected. Every aspect of it has changed. Your expected to take in an awfull lot in a short period of time.
Think of it........
You left your family behind to live in a box 24/7 w/someone crazy enough to do this for a living. Your old sleep habits are out the window. Regular sleep?..... fugget 'bout it. Your eating habits have changed. Your expected to learn a safety critical occupation that is probably alien to you, at an excelerated rate. All of this combined & all while being away from/missing your family.
Should be pretty clear now why most folks either don't make it, or lifestyle just doesn't fit. Hard to truly impress this on someone until they have actually experienced it.
Keep head up high....... it's just that initial shock of complete change. Completely normal. It's a hell of a lot hitting you at once on probable little sleep. You'll be alright & adjusting after a couple weeks. It's always the hardest for those with families. Payoff will be a decent career to take care of that family......if it fits.
Rooting for you
&
PEACE

There's a lot of truth in the notion that trucking is more a lifestyle than a job.KC63 and Chucktshoes Thank this. -
Good Luck.
Keep an eye open for local work,
Memphis is a good location.Chucktshoes Thanks this. -
After I passed my drop dead date where I could still back out no harm no foul, it has gotten a little easier each day. Missing my little girl still completely blows, but I'm not wanting to hop out of the truck at the nearest Greyhound station anymore. I'm also able to really focus on my driving. I will say the biggest issue I've had on that front is unlearning 15 years of driving a manual transmission. Did I mention yet that double clutching is stupid?
Thanks for the support folks. Be safe and see y'all out on the road. -

Heh heh heh .......
Had same issues myself from lifetime of manual 4wheelers. That's why I tell folks that they may actually be better off NOT having any manual experience beforehand. Sometimes it's better to learn some things from scratch. Took me a bit to stop locking myself out of gears by holding clutch in like 4wheeler.
When you get back home from driving for extended time, you'll find yourself doing that 'ol two step on your manual. Even better...... go give an automatic a drive and report back to me how it went!
Glad to hear things getting better. Won't happen overnight. No lie...... sometimes it can be #### frustrating out here. It's all about how you handle it & your outlook on things.
Keep it up & keep it safe.Chucktshoes Thanks this. -
Tested today. Didn't earn any bonus money. I allowed my nerves to get to me and I failed my road test. The MDOT observer in the truck didn't help. Went out with my trainer for more practice and did fine. I will retest tomorrow and this time I will pass.
FullMetalJacket and KC63 Thank this. -
