Yeah, well sometimes the trainee is the only one who thinks he's ready.
Seen too many instances where the trainee has to admit he hits something. Was given a responsibility and fails miserably.... like getting himself up on time for his shift to roll or check in at a customer and decides to sleep in or not set alarm. Trainee disappearing at truck stop and not ready to roll when a load comes in. Told to be ready at a certain time to be picked up off home time and can't be reached, running late or any of a number excuses. Or basically showing lack of initiative in taking charge of day to day responsibilities
All experiences Ive had with trainees. And when confronted with the facts, had very little leg to stand on when they felt they should be upgraded the moment they hit the MINIMUM... (THERE IS ONLY A MINIMUM NUMBER... no such thing as a max)
Go to Steve Larson... better have your facts straight, better not waste his time.
The best question is when they ask the trainee how many miles he has accumulated and he hasn't had the sense to keep track himself and comes up a couple thousand miles short of even the minimum. Your fleet knows you are a moron if you're the guy calling every week asking "how many miles do I have?"

Not at all, and I sure don't know that.
Too little information given for anybody to know anything of what's really going on, but good replies given to address any potential problem.
Only said "38,000 & FM 'seems' to want him out for more". Not clear if that was from his communication or just inference. Thus, my mention of importance of communication with FM.
I do know plenty of folks that did many more miles than required before coming in. Both from FM/trainer decision, and also self choice.
Definately hope it works out for the best, though.Last edited: Jul 31, 2014
