1. Absolutely. I run reefer and run ALL 48. Flatbed will have to chime in on their frequency.
2. ?? Not sure, run reefer.
3. Three weeks out, minimum. Otherwise, long as you want. I haven't taken any home time since last year. My choice, truck IS my home.
4. You will have an APU, no need to idle.
5. All manual transmissions.
csw1818 Thanks this. -
fair enough, have you had any trouble out of them? and im single 21 year old so i may come home at some points, but im looking more into seeing the states thats why i ask out west never been past pigeon forge tn haha

I run reefer and run all 48 states and I see our flatbeds pretty much every where I go. Yes they get tarp pay not sure of the amount but they do get it. I have never had issue of getting home when I want.

ive actually never saw a flatbed, im saw dry vans, and reefers. how hard is it to switch from van to flatbed
I ask this because i think backing a van would be harder then backing a flatbed enless its a spread axle, and learning to back it vital to the trucking industry
and then probably switching to flat, but then id need to go back to training for flatbed securement, that sounds like a bad idea now that i think about itLast edited: Sep 9, 2014

Prime doesn't have dry vans, any dry loads are pulled in reefers. Now reefer is by far our biggest division, then flatbed and then tanker. Not sure what the percentages are but I would say reefer makes up about 70% of Primes fleet of trucks. Flatbeds do back but not near as much as a reefer truck does.

Yea. I understand that, I may just go flatbed. Ultimately I wanna end up at tmc pulling a RGN

You get one day for home time for each week out. They prefer you take no more than 4 at a time for home time. More than 4 days you may have to move out of truck, then back into another when done. Trucks gotta roll to make $$. You let FM know when, they arrange where to drop trailer, & you usually bobtail home. My co-driver has had zero problem with this, nor anyone else I know. As far as myself, I just need to say the word.
Zero problems from Prime for me, been a great experience. Exceeded all my expectations. You can get an idea of my experience in my thread. You couldn't pry me outta the truck if you tried! Wish I would have done this in MY early twenties when I had the chance.
Traveled the country 30yrs ago In my late teens/early twenties. When I retired from government, decided to give this a go, do it another way, and see what has changed. I love it. Absolutely no regrets. Can't see myself doing anything other than this, except flying or crop dusting.

I'll go look at it, thanks everyone for the help!
