    Hello,

Does Prime pay actual miles or do they pay zip code to zip code?

I don't work for a Prime either, but with most companies, you're gonna take a hit on miles. As a rule of thumb, if I can keep out of route (read: unpaid) miles below 6%, I'm doing good. If I ever have over 10%, there is a problem and my pay check needs to be adjusted accordingly. 10% is all that I'm willing to give them.

Not with Prime, but our company pays practical miles - not hub miles, but about the fairest system available.

That's about what we were losing at the 2 previous carriers, 6-8%. I now object to anything less than the actual miles driven - I'm sure they'd be unhappy if I parked on the side of the road 65 miles from delivery and said "Come and get it! That's where my paycheck stops!"

Just another tool for them to pay the driver less.

What made me mad was when I found one company had us contracted to an LTL firm. The company was being paid practical miles, but was paying us on the company's HHG miles. I had them correct and pay accordingly.

What I guess is important is the miles the load is actually paying from the shipper/reciever. Still - that one is usually not privy to us, and we did sign a contract . . .

Now that the peanut gallery has chimed in, Prime company drivers get paid HHG miles, for all miles empty and loaded - which is better than zip code to zip code. You can get totally screwed by that one (try one side of Dallas to the other for $0 like I've "heard" the Werner guys get screwed with,) but it does have some advantages to hub or practical miles as well.

Prime doesn't get bent out of shape if you go out of route to park at the Walmart up the road- as long as you're doing it legally within the HOS. Some of the outfits that tout hub and practical miles will dock your pay for doing that. Additionally, if you are seriously shorted compared to your odometer miles, my company-side fleet manager would adjust my miles to reflect the greater miles I ran.

    HHG miles......

    Popular in the 1980's.........

    Total rip-off,

    8-10% less miles.
