Not every student that finishes orientation gets assigned an instructor immediately. Sometimes it can take days or weeks. It depends on how many instructors are available at that time. The staff encourages all students to take charge and look for an instructor on their own time. Otherwise, you can wait around for them to assign you one, whenever that may be. I have decided to be proactive. Looking forward to getting out there and learning.

So the staff encourages you to do their job?

Or maybe they are encouraging folks to be proactive and to be the drivers of their own careers and success. Folks who sit around expecting others to do for them instead of doing for themselves are rarely successful and even more rarely happy.

In this context that's just silly. They hire you and offer paid training, but encourage you to find an available trainer? Find a company that is prepared to put drivers in the seats. If they are actually telling you that they expect you to wait while so many companies are hiring, I would consider another company. I actually agree with your concept, but not when it comes to their responsibility. Be a go-getter, sure I get that, but in the right way. His part is to learn, their's is to train and give him a paycheck. Drivers are in demand. If they want him, get him in a truck, if not someone else will be glad to.

And you sound like an excellent person to train. Keep your enthusiasm but don't get taken advantage of. Hopefully you get a trainer who is interested in developing your skills and not just his paycheck.

Really what they are refering to, is that while out on the training pad the new PSD student see's if they can hook up with an instructor that is working with his (The instructors ) current student getting them ready to test them out. Ya see they do not re-assign instructors untill the instructors current student has passed the testing and has moved on to a TNT trainer. But if the new PSD student finds one of these instructors, then said Instructor can request the new PSD student.

Also there may be newly trained instructors just finishing the Instructors training week that the new PSD student can hook up with, as the new Instructor has not been assigned a PSD student yet.

    Make sense now?

Yes. Sounds like a confusing process though. Students learn, company trains. I really question that prime is recommending its students to go out looking for their trainer on the internet. Well, I do truly wish this gentleman well, enthusiasm like his will lead to success.

Understandable, PSD students go on a list after they are cleared and as Instructors become available they get assigned. As there seems to be more students than instructors available it might be awhile. I know when I would come out of Home time they would head me into springfield to pick up a new student, but I would not get assigned one till a day or two prior to me getting to springfield.
As far as getting on the net looking for an instructor, I doubt he was encouraged to do that, could be wrong but I doubt it. As they, Prime, try to match up students to instructors that live in the same area. Also I know if I ever called my FM and said I wanted student XYZ as he was on the net looking for a instructor I would get told nope, as the FM's are looking for students that they need to fill in certain geographic locations for their boards.

Yeah, I don't think the student was specifically told to go looking on the net, just to be proactive in finding an instructor. Also, I know that when I got my instructor, we weren't "assigned" to each other. He received a list of possible students and started calling them. He and I sat down, talked and basically interviewed each other to ensure we were an acceptable fit. He wasn't obligated to accept me and I wasn't obligated to go out with him. If one is proactive in seeking out an instructor, I think they would have a better chance of finding a good fit. I imagine the instructors are looking for good students just as much as the prospective students want a good instructor.

I was encouraged to seek out instructors while waiting. No one said to go online specifically. I decided to try it because it couldn't hurt. I know it is unusual and the chances of finding an instructor this way are slim. But I have nothing to lose by trying. I imagine there are instructors who check this forum or people who know instructors might read this. I'm using any resource I can to get a good instructor. I appreciate your input guys!
