An inauspicious start.

    After a week of classes, waiting for a truck and then waiting for the truck to get fixed, I came ready to be assigned my first load yesterday. Freight has been slow around the terminal this weekend but I finally got dispatched to take a load out of the terminal into Atlanta. I got everything ready to go and then I it turned around at outbound. The trailer was broke. Needs work on the S cams or something. Either way, here I am, back sitting at the terminal.

    Sometimes things can start off on a bad note with a first load. Don t let it discourage you. The good part is that your company caught it before you took off with it. There s nothing worse to be sitting on side of the road when the problem could ve been caught before you got down the road. Not to mention, you and your company getting CSA points for something that could ve been fixed before you left the yard

    I'm not discouraged or anything, and I am glad that I didn't get out on the road with a broke trailer. I am just a little annoyed though because I was all excited/nervous to get out of the yard and on the road with my first load and then nuttin. Almost like being 15 and thinking you're about to score for the first time cause you landed a date with the girl with the rep for being easy and then.....nope. You get shot down. :D

    Lesson learned: Always ask lineup if the trailer is on hold for any shop work before you hook up to it and try to leave.

    Lesson #2: The tighter the load, the greater a chance of there being a shop hold on a trailer.

    It'll get better. Be happy it's only a maintenance delay... and you're not explaining why you got put out of service at a coop.

    Agreed. Learned this the "school of hard knocks" way!

    First thing I do is check that assigned trailer immediately to see if it has been through inspection when it came in & if there are any holds. They are supposed to be checked inbound, but doesn't always occur at all our places. If hasn't been inspected, will run it through immediately to get it cleared or taken care of & out of the way. Additionally, sometimes someone catches something outbound that wasn't caught inbound. Hard to prevent that, but thankfully not as common.

    Nothing like hitting outbound with everything planned out for trip, and getting trailer pulled. Been there, done that. Happened at SpingMo one time, and they were so backed up we were there for over nearly 36hrs. That can sure screw you up. Do everything you can AS SOON AS YOU CAN to see that that trailer is cleared. Better to take the time right away, then be safe, than wait till your leaving.

    Hey, haven't even been out the door......and your learning a valuable lesson. Wish I would have learned this right from beginning!

    Well, here I am in a door at my 90. I'll be honest, I'm grinning like an idiot. First solo run almost (until I am out of here still time for something to go wrong) in the bag.
