I pulled Cat engines when I was with Prime and I never tarped them. As DrtyDiesel stated, ask the shipper and call the consignee and ask. If I was hauling something that obviously needed to be tarped, I did it without question, but if it's plastic wrapped, I'm calling to check. Nine times out of ten, they'll say not to worry about it. And before anyone says "If something happens, it's on you", save it. I pulled flatbeds for nearly 20 years and I never had a claim. Use common sense. It's easy for those Prime dispatchers sitting in the Millennium Center to say "throw a tarp on it" as if that's a 5 minute job.

I once picked up fresh new aluminum coils. Has to be tarped. I waited 15 hours for them to be made. While putting my tarps on, they started to melt and stick to the coils. I called roehl dispatch and was told "just tarp it, you gotta get moving". Yeah, peeled the tarps off in pieces at the consignee

I always had the clear plastic; very thick, but still shredded in a few miles.

It's part of the job. Like when I get loads that are one pallet high and the top of which comes to my hip. They say to put load bars in. One reason why i don't pull flat.

Also ignore that guy. "Skateboardman" who suggested going to another Carrier. He's a troll .
