We have a number of hazmat runs... you should have both hazmat and tanker to run them- even in the reefer division. Don't bother with the hazmat endorsement until you have your CDL since it won't transfer from state to state. Pays the same on the company side plus a $50 hazmat payment, but it will get you out of a bad freight area on a day that everyone else is waiting on something to show up.

Yep... your CDL will be issued by Missouri, and within 30-60 days you'll be routed back to your home state with your trainer to get your license transferred. If you're going to do hazmat that would be the time to get the tests done. You'd get your background check and finger prints along with your TWIC card done during PSD so that they're ready when you upgrade.

Nope. But on a slow Saturday on the east coast, while you sit and biotch about not having a load, a guy whose hazmat rated will get a nice one from Jersey to Dallas.

I got a reminder last time I was in sprimo at driver line up about Hazmat being mandatory.

They sure ask alot in relation to what they provide. it's good in theory but everyone is so busy and understaffed they can't think straight or make it happen. looks like i'm becoming one of those "problem drivers".

Its the truth, and I'm protesting nothing... except for some lame excuses. Running hazmat is easy... just a few procedures to follow, and it opens up another class of freight lazy drivers can't touch. It wasn't that long ago that loads were hard to come by; things are easy now, but the pendulum will swing again. Those hazmat loads that are too much to bother with will look mighty good then.
