When they are running right you will have to try hard to get them under 7mpg, when they are broken you try hard to get 7mpg.

Drive it like you would ride a bicycle. Sometimes you want to get on it to make what's ahead easy. And winter fuel is bad for fuel mileage.

    jomar68 Thanks this.

They assigned me a full size non shaking freightliner. Thedead head I did to nm seemed to confirm sususpicion s that the issue was too high of rpms. Kept speed around 54-56 and 1200 or less and was hitting 9s and 10s. Now to see how it works with a 47k load. Love how it's always the small things that end up being the issue.

    jomar68 and Highway101 Thank this.

Be thankful it's the small things in life. Wait until it's the big things, then it seems insurmountable.

hmmmm, flatbed must get worse mpg then reefer, I keep cruise set on 58 and get concerned if under 8.2, usually between 8.6-9.2

Yes flats tend to be a little worse but not much. Depends on the load and headwinds. Until I lost the wings on my truck (2014 condo Cascadia with the new large wing brackets combined with same headache rack as older trucks meaning its almost as wide as sleeper, doesnt add up well) I was getting 9's on average. So until I can talk them into the new headache rack, which is narrower and dont break those brackets, Im stuck getting 7's. I could have them repair the current set up but no point without changing racks because it would just bust them out again.

Since I first posted I have gotten an 8+ heavy loaded going 53mph. I am sure that everyone on the road hates me for it, but there is something oddly amusing about the idea of trolling every driver on the road. That and never having to slow down because someone is going slower than I. Will have to do some more fine tuning though, my weekly mpg was 7.1 this time around.

are you filling up every 100 miles to check it....??
on some trucks the truck computer is close on others not so much
the only way to know isn't every 100 miles or even each tank....
the only way to really know what it is, is to AVG. 7 day, 14 day, 30 day, 60 day, 90 day.
winter blend fuel will drop your millage also... so this time of year some load, same road, same speed your millage will be less then the same load in the summer..

my trucks computer shows lifetime (975K) fuel avg. of 5.9 mpg...... real number even with idle time (i idle alot) 6.6 mpg. without idle time 7.4 mpg....

I have one of the new boxes and they still break the brackets. It's back as far as it can go but the APU is in the way. They are not as wide nor deep as the old ones so it's a fight to fit steel tarps inside whereas the old ones could fit both lumber and steel tarps inside. I'm not impressed. :)

Wow that sucks. I already told my fm that when time comes to turn it in I'll be pushing Prime to pay the repair bill because I didnt install the rack their shop did. I just want my 8 and 9mpg back :-(
