Hello ttr's, it's me again.. being a bother to some, but inquisitive to others. I will be leaving for Prime next week and I have something really big on my mind about the whole training portion. Basically I'm worried that by me being on the road I won't have time to study my pre-trip enough before I head back to test out. I want to know, but shouldn't really care rather study my boots off so I don't have to worry....
What happens if I fail my Pre-trip inspection? (i.e. send me packing, allow me to train some more, what...) Please someone who's experienced this let me know.
P.S: I don't know where to begin studying from home some of my pre-trip information. If you have any resources please list..

When you say on the road you mean with a trainer? Depending how many trailers you pull, you'll be doing one or two pretrip a day until it gets drill into your head. It's a routine where everybody does it their own way but get the same results

everyday, I would love that.... I just keep reading different things about trainers not wanting to teach us anything

My PSD instructor didn't go over pre-trip with me in any real depth until after I got all my driving hours in and we were getting ready to test out. Don't sweat it. It's super easy once you're standing in front of the truck/trailer and you start to actually see all the things you're inspecting.

You take it again the next day

You have Internet go to youtube. There is a guy from some Tennessee truck school that does a very good job of explaining what to say and what parts you need to know. Watch it over and over till you feel comfortable. Then when you get in front of your truck it will all come together

Bring the state CDL book with you and read it every min. you have. I would also say walk with the trainer when he is doing the PTI a few times then when you feel up to it ask him if you can do it with him watching over you to make sure you are doing it right. If he says no then I would ask for a different trainer. I would think if he/she is any good they would let you do it.

Your biggest goal in training should be learning how to get from A to B on time and safely. Forgetting the crown nut with the cotter pin is not the key to your success. Important, but not the key.
Remember, you got a license, and hired. You are good enough for the state and the company. Now, learn how to do the job without killing anyone. Ask yourself on every maneuver and decision, is this the safest choice. Don't need a teacher for that.
Good luck to ya. -
