    Current Prime flatbedder here...

I'm hoping someone can answer me this. I'm in the market for a used truck (2013 KW t660) to run with Prime... There are some ideal ones coming into the MHC up in Kansas City in a week or 2. My drawback is, the one I want has an 86" sleeper. Living in the truck full time and this would be so much roomier.

I called Success Leasing and asked the requirements for any truck you bring on board to run under Prime's authority/loadboards.. They said 3 things:
    2013 or newer
    244" wheelbase or less
18200 pounds or lighter with driver, all gear, and a quarter tank of fuel.

I'm concerned if I purchase an 86" sleeper, that might put me over on weight. (The wheelbase on the truck is only 240") I'm finding it difficult to find curb weights for these trucks, outside of checking the door frame. Even the MHC folks I've talked to aren't sure.

Is anyone aware of anyone at Prime running a truck with a studio sleeper like that? If no one else at the company is running one, that probably means they are too large. That would be most disappointing, but I would understand. I don't know how to find out the actual stamped-weight of a t660 and see how much a larger sleeper would add.

Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

The simple answer, and the only answer I would trust, is you're going to have to get in that truck and drive it to a scale and weigh it. Supposedly, with the vin number you should be able to get the weight, but if someone tells you wrong, you're stuck, so take no chances, cover your tail, and go to the scale.

Agreed! That would be the best way to go about this. My problem with that is that the truck is located up in KC. Perhaps I will ask the MHC up there to have someone take it to a scale. That might work.
Just don't want to drive all the way up there to find out its too fat for Prime's requirements. Heh

So get a load going up that way. Considering that you want to go the O/O route, how do you expect to be able to deal with business if you can't manage to at least get to SPRIMO, and if nothing else, afford to rent a car for a day so you can adequately inspect that truck and weigh it?

I know this isn't a perfect comparison, but the truck in my signature with 1/8th tanks of fuel, most of my gear and myself weighed in at 20020lbs. I have an APU on here too. Dunno what materials have changed over the last 10 years and what differences exist between the T600 and the T680, but I have my doubts that truck would be light enough. What engine does it have? I had an ISX in a Cascadia before I bought my T600 and it was ridiculously heavy on the front axle.

Most if not all of the trucks in this lot have 15 liter ISX engines. I was thinking that might be the difference-maker right there.. If one is a Paccar 13, that might just be light enough to get thru. He didn't have specifics, just told me they were 240" WB and he believed almost all were Cummins.

Trying to save myself a trip if its overweight to begin with, that was my whole point.

My last truck was a t600 with a c15 cat. That truck was HEAVY! It had the standard 70" sleeper (old Melton truck). So my guess is that sleeper will be too heavy.
