    Need Help please ....

Evening / Afternoon / Morning - A question for bartage or anyone else that might know. I have my CDL and drove for Coca~Cola in the early 90s .. left and worked for our family business and now selling that (Economy need I say more). I have driven for my Uncles family business which was to pick up loads and drop empty trailers. Told him that I would do it whenever he needed the help and I would not except any money because 1. I love driving trucks and 2. It was a family business.

I have been checking for about 6 months now and into I don't know how many Truck Driving Jobs. The ones I have called * JB - CSRT and many more* and the one kicker that hits me is that I do not have either 1 or 2 years OTR that is verifiable. I have checked into truck driving schools and they say " but you already have your CDL " then I have run across some friends who have just started out driving again. I have talked to one company and they want me to go to their 4 to 6 week driving school / orientation which is okay with me but when I received a call from the company and she said they noticed I am looking at starting with their company. I told her that another lady from her company told me I had to go to the driving / orientation yet she said " No you can just go get a 2 week refresher on backing ect with one of our trainers and then do a 2 to 4 week ride with that trainer..." that is no money out of my pocket except for food and motel of course.

I am VERY confused and really want to work for PRIME after many things I have read and heard from drivers of PRIME and not of PRIME.
My Question or Questions are these :
    1. Do I need or does PRIME require every driver to go through a driving school of theirs even though they have their CDL like me ?

    2. I am KY and do not mind driving where I need to do so for PRIME but where bouts would I be heading to ... Indiana / Ohio / Tennessee or ?

    3. I am a Rookie even though I have driven for over 7yrs yet that was a while back ... and what I have to do I will.

    4. Would I go into PSD or go straight into TNT. However PRIME does it that is cool with me.

One last word .... my father told me after I stopped driving for Coca~Cola .. "Son, no matter what you do and with you working for us now DO NOT ever let that CDL expire or loose it" I am glad this is one of the many of things I did that he told me to do.

Appreciate ANY help you all can give me !!!

So... your last verifiable experience was 20 years ago. You'll be going to Springfield MO to run through PSD and TnT as a refresher. You have plenty of driving experience, but none of it is OTR which is different. It will give you the benefit of seeing how it works, and how Prime wants their operations run. It'll also make you insurable.

If you already have your CDL I think you would be placed in the refresher course, or TNT. TNT is the $700/ week min guarantee, and you'd be out for about 6 or 7 weeks as a team. Then Solo when you get past that.

Prime is a good company. We have our faults like anyone but the pay isn't one of them, at least on the company side.

Dude, you're going through the entire student program because of the length of time since you last had a job.

And stop reading so much. If, as you say, you're fine with whatever Prime does to you, front-loading your experience with a lot of superfluous information asked on a public forum won't help you and might just hurt your attitude. Just go and enjoy the experience.

I have checked and called all over so I figured Prime would be the better one to go to. Everyone I have talked with I have to do their 4-6 week training and then take a week off and then back out again for 2-4 weeks to get hooked up with a trainer which might last a month or two.

I was thinking the same as all of you have said...do like a refresher course for a couple of weeks and then on with a trainer to see how the company wants me to perform or how they want me to. Lord knows I do need a refresher and it is harder than heck even with a CDL to bypass the Class for students trying to get their CDL.

If anyone has advice I am all ears .. either post it here or pm me if you would please. :biggrin_25514:

    Thanks !!
