Refresher info, please

    Has anybody been through the refresher - for CDL holders with no experience - lately? I could use some real-time info
    regarding the program to supplement what the recruiter had to offer.

    1)PSD unpaid training 3 to 4 weeks (75 hours)

    2)TnT for 30k miles

    How long is the orientation in springfield before you are out on a truck?
    Can you put in the 75 hours before 3 weeks?

    I have had my CDL since 2011 bit never pursued a career. now
    my choices are a program similar to prime's, or pay 2k for a refresher
    and hook-up with Schnieder, who will reimburse me the 2k over time.
    I need info to make a good decision.

    I think I would be doing some more homework. There are numerous companies that hire the inexperienced. Not just Big Orange. Especially where you're located. Pick up a phone and start dialing. What's the worst they can say? We're not interested? Most of these companies go over most of what you learned in CDL school during orientation. Most, if not all, will put you with a trainer for x amount of time or miles. Give it a shot. It won't hurt in the least.

    Schnieder (I am interested in their tanker division) and Swift want the refresher and will reimburse, Western, Werner, and USXpress are my fall-back options, all of them have orientation in PA, but Prime is
    my 1st choice, I drive all over PA, NJ, DE, & MD and I really notice the quality of their rigs, as opposed to Western Express, they all look like their falling apart.

    Yes the PSD phase is unpaid, but you can draw 200.00 per week that you have to repay of course.
    Orientation is M-F, then out on a truck with and Instructor.
    On putting in the 75 hours before 3 weeks, Yep sure can, A few of my students I had back in 2 weeks, they had previous experience. It depends on your Instructor and your abilities.
    TNT length will probably be 30K regardless, just to get you some real experience before turning you loose.

    Is the orientation all classroom or are you out on the range doing PT or maybe backing?
    During PSD, are you OTR or do you return to the yard every night?

    Answer = Pretty much all classroom, maybe some pretrip in your spare time if they have a truck available or a driver lets you pretrip his/her truck

    During PSD, are you OTR or do you return to the yard every night?
    Answer = All OTR, once you leave the yard you normally don't return till your ready for your test/eval out. Then you either go with the same trainer or get hooked up with a new one.

    Earl Henderson Trucking would be the fastest route to get back on the road.
    They also pull Prime trailers and haul Prime freight, but don't have to go through the CIA interrogation process to get started.

    Maybe so, I don't know the full story. I think same situation as O&S. Wil-Trans also hauls Prime freight and pulls Prime trailers and Wil-Trans also owns Jim Palmer Trucking. I really don't know how this is all set up. It's complicated and arduous being hired by Prime and very simple being hired by Earl Henderson. In fact a driver could call Earl Henderson right now and probably be in orientation Monday morning.

    I think all of them offer the lease/purchase program & if I were inclined would go with Wil-Trans for their fancy trucks.

    Yeah, I was there when the O&S deal was done, real POS trailers compared to the Prime ones, I would go out of my way not to pull one of their trailers LOL.

    You are probably right about the Henderson.

    Yeah, Wil-Trans has full sized trucks, don't know if they do any training though.
