That was Feb 2009... was that a good time for you? At that time I agreed with U2.

Things are quite a bit better now. Good enough that I switched from the company side to leasing. I haven't been sorry that I did.

    MarineNewRookie Thanks this.

That was Feb. of 2009... That was a pretty crappy winter. I did a lot of sitting... Yeah it was a long and slow winter that year. I got a little bitter.

I sometimes wish I got to sit a little more in the past 2 winters... Ive been pretty busy the last 2 winters...

Here are my miles and days at home for the first 12 weeks of the last 3 years

    2009 - 25132 - 5
    2010 - 23999 - 11
    2011 - 28134 - 8

As you can see 2010 is a little lower, but I had more time off.

I have it pretty easy. No rent, car paid off. I paid off all my debt early the first year out. I max out my IRA contributions every year. I have Prime take 10 percent out for my 401k. (which they match a percentage) I bank what ever else I dont spend in savings..

I spent a week in Vegas earlier this year, Ive already booked an paid for my 2 week trip to Germany for Oktoberfest this fall....

I have a cell phone and Wireless plan for my computer, car insurance, Netflix and HuluPlus... thats it for bills. Those bills are paid with my credit card for the points, and I pay the balance on the cards every month.

Im not ready to buy a house, because I am not ready to live in a house... however, that doesnt mean I am not preparing to buy one in the future... Thats what my savings are for.

While I can't comment on the trucking side of things at Prime, I worked for them a few years back in the service bays doing DOT inspections. The company had a solid base there, with new facilities and a spot right next to the freeway for quick in 'n outs.

The days were 12 hours each, and shifts rotated sometimes. The truckers for the most part were good people. Some of the office staff seemed to be a little "above" everyone else in their actions.

The worst part of my experience was refilling the reefer units in the middle of that Missouri winter! Snow's piled up, roads are iced over, gotta go work for 12 hours in diesel fumes for minimum wage, and then on top of that I had to drive the refueling truck to go fill the reefer units on the lot?? Crazy!

I did gain a lot of respect for the truckers who were doing well, and I learned a bit about the different models. While I liked the Peterbuilts (and there's a Pets's store right up the freeway there), those Volvos were like the Cadillac's of trucking! They were incredibly nice.

    My $.02 guys.

Do not work for Prime if you value your family life. Do not lease a truck with them....you will pay almost $5k a month none of which goes to purchasing the vehicle. If ypu just absolutely need a new truck to sport in the local truck stops and cold storage facilities buy one from them with 13k down no credit check! I am a lease operator and I am successful but there are far easier waysto do trucking and have a home life.

Aware of that but people read these all the time. Will put the word out whenever and however I can. Saved 3 lives from making the mistake in the last 2 years.
