it sounds about right.... I was a student and then trained... so after my cdl instruction I got the 600 guaranteed...

There are a couple things to that gaurantee... for the $600 its actually 12 cents/mile (dispatched truck miles as a team) or $600.... whichever is more. Run more than 5k miles that week and you make more than the $600

If the trainee takes time off at home... he just gets the .12/mile for that week no guarantee... thats what they mean by "must be available for dispatch 7 days a week"

If the trainer goes home, and the trainee (it may suck but it happens) sits in the truck... the trainee still gets the guarantee. My trainer took me in to his house, let me use his car etc... Ive heard of trainers putting the trainee up in a hotel... remember not all trainers are that generous.

Quick question on Prime. As far as I understand, training for your CDL, the only classroom/school yard time is the first couple days for your Permit. The rest is spent on the road with the trainer (which I prefer, I learn faster hands on, not in a classroom), but I was wondering does Prime have a skidpad or something similar to practice maintaining control of the truck in adverse conditions?

There are alot of questions here still not answered. I have the same question as MTL2020, are they hiring newbies? Got my CDL with hazmat. I was interested in the Tanker spot. Thanks

    Newbies

As far as the newbie question goes, I haven't driven in 19 years and I am going to Springfield on 19 May for orientation. I don't have a CDL and will be starting from scratch with Prime (as I should after almost 20 years!) I have been a nurse for the last 15 years and finally decided to go back and do what I love...not what pays the most. As I get further through the training I will answer any questions I can. Thanks to U2Exit and Ironpony for making my decision easier with the great posts full of info. See everyone on the road soon

Dude, your statement about questions not being answered is a little rude. But then again, most "super truckers" are

I dont keep up with our hiring practices at the moment... you should call a recruiter... For a while we were not hiring students from truck schools, then someone came on here and said they got hired.

I dont know anything about tankers, and dont know any tank yankers. I know its a small divisions... Last I heard the Lease/Op tankers wont turn down a load, because its the only load.

Depending on your experiance, will determine how many miles you go with a trainer. As a thumb rule, if you have been driving over a year and are coming to Prime straight from another company, you probably wont have to train.

This is bartage's thread, and Im sure he will get to your questions and I apologize if I am stepping on his "toes"...

Check out my threads... Prime Training Experiance and Prime A year in Review. My satisfaction level hasnt changed... it has all the good and bad

As for my numbers, they are posted in there .... as up to date as a few weeks ago, and I will add the following weeks in a week or two. I had a good week this past week... over 3k miles.
