Yeah, I got my CDL last year, but I haven't driven for anyone yet. I was scheduled for Swift's orientation but ended up having to cancel it. Then they cut back on hiring. Prime sounded interesting but I have been unemployed too long. Guess I will have to keep looking.

Like Channel 19 suggested check out ROEHL , they are hiring and will take newbies with or without CDL.

I run into one of their drivers every few weeks , he is on a dedicaed dryvan run up into Canada, seems to be a good deal and decent equipment. Seeing more ROEHLS pulling reefer now than in the past as well.

The economy is very spotty in it's effects on trucking. Freight in the NE seems to have slowed down in the last month or so; not surprising at the "lack of miles" up there. You're man is training isn't he? If he's on a lease truck, the deal is maximizing gross revenue, not miles. Company guys get paid by number of miles. Short trips in the NE can pay very well on a percentage basis of gross revenue.

That's a consequence of the geography - personally I'd prefer to run rockies to the east coast and back, week in and week out. Doesn't happen that way though...

My FM get's me some extra pay occasionally due to short runs and layovers waiting for a load as well.

Always scan each trip within 24 hours of going empty! Always, Always, ALWAYS!!! Gotta agree with U2... it really helps to have a PC, scanner and the Transflo software so you can upload your trip reports if you get stuck in Timbuktu!

Varies. U2 and I have the same FM, and I think I need to adjust where he's sending miles! 3k, indeed!! I ended up empty in OH yesterday, and was really expecting to be marooned all weekend. Imagine my surprise when I woke-up from a nap to find a fairly long trip awaiting for me... downside is it's on next weeks check - not this week. Pittston dispatches from the same pool of freight that the entire company uses, so he's just as likely to run to California as Maine. Depends on where he's at and what's available when they spin the load wheel!

Based on her posts and the laws of average BILL will likely last 2 months , TRANSAM was 6 , CELADON was 4, PRIME :biggrin_2551: cannot go to CANADA but that is thats STUPID COUNTRYS fault not BILLS ( DUI )

Easy explenation... DH from my delivery in Topeka out to Holcomb, KS for a meat load to Chicago...

after delivery I didnt get locked up in an IL, IN, OH, MO cycle by getting a repower of "claims issue" beef going back to Dodge City, KS...

Only thing out of that part of Kansas is Beef going East... Time on load was short... so it got repowered in Gary, IN going to Detroit...

I got caught up in small town traffic and the rather large detour where an entire 30 miles stretch of US50 is closed west of Emporia... and because of paperless logs, FM didnt want me to get within 10-15 minutes of the reciever and be out of time.

I only have 400 miles on this week check with 4 stops (60 extra dollars), but Im currently on a 2700 mile load with 4 stops (extra 60 bucks) that delivers near my house for hometime this Thurs. So basically 3100 miles and 8 deliveries in 9 days plus 4 days off over a two week pay period.
