| flatbed driving When can a new driver switch from running reefer to flatbed division ? i have my metal coil endorsement when i applied my recuriter don't remember her name told me there is not a trainer available at the time i know i have to complete my 60k mile till A seat ?  |

| I didn't know you had to do one thing for so long before you can do another.... I started in flatbed & have been flatbed all these years.... I still as of today don't have any coil certifications.... NY or AL.... I don't feel the experienced driver's who know the dangers & how to properly secure a coil needs one.... So I refuse to get one & they refuse to load me a coil.... Oh well.... No sweat lost off my sack.

| Alabama coil certification is no longer in effect so no sweat there. (I never got mine either) And I was not aware that NY required one. Prime flatbed....there are better companies to pull flat beds for. To answer your question...most companies don't require flat bed experience, they train you (or should anyway) |

| They suspended it while I was in orientation in Little Rock...and I read somewhere that they abandoned the whole idea. I don't remember where I read that though, but it shouldn't be hard to find online...come to think of it, I believe I read it in a LandLine magazine (OOIDA magazine) but I'm not sure. They originally suspended it because Maverick overloaded their system and crashed it (too many applications at one time)...they probably done it on purpose...LOL. |

| I looked and can't find anything about it being lifted so don't quote me on that just yet. I know I read it somewhere and the ATA has been fighting AL hard over it because they are afraid it will set a precedent that other states will follow (e.g. one state will require special training to haul shingles, another will for lumber, another will for logs, etc.)...but Maverick has not gave me the certification and I've been through AL quite a few times lately...loaded there a few times too. | The certification is still active from what I'm seeing. It is only good for loading/unloading coils in the state of Alabama. This includes skidded coils that are being loaded/unloaded in Alabama. If you load coils in other states & are just traveling thru the state of Alabama, then the coil certification is not needed. Sounds like a bunch of #### to me... If the certification is required for loading/unloading in Alabama... Then why does a person just traveling thru get by without it? A coil is a coil is a coil.... They can do the same damage whether they fall off a local truck (which Alabama is known for & as to why they have this new law) or fall of a truck that is just traveling thru....
