    Dodge,
I applied with Black Gold in NP and a few others, I know my biggest problem is that I dont have alot of experience but when an interview does come up I will be honest about it. I dont want to bite off more than I can chew, and definately dont want to lei to get in with a company.

My Suggestion, at first, try the landscaping guys, see if you can slide in somewhere and learn to drive dump truck. Once you haul a pup, and haul equipment, it's a lot easier to get on with the big boys. Lots of backing, offroad, tight quarters does the truckdriver good.

I screwed up and took a job for a heavy haul outfit that went bankrupt instead of Weaver Bro's 7 years ago. I'm still mad at myself about that!

I like the fact that you're going out to the companies and seeing them in person. Alot of people just use the computer to apply for jobs and they get stuck with the worse companies. I don't know if you were active duty or a civilian working for the Air Force but your experience sometimes can be accepted by companies. You're not starting out from ground zero so you do have something to offer. You can search this site http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ and see if you meet any of those asked requirements. But just the fact that you're applying in person gives you the opportunity to explain what you had to do for drug testing allows them to understand you've been going through a program almost the same as DOT. Hang in there and good luck.

I was a civillian working for the Air Force, drove end dump, airfield brooms with airblast, snow blowers, loader, grader, Tymco sweep vac, water truck, Got on a small dozer for a day pushing snow, 20 ft plow and a rollover plow both with underbody blades. I logged my time in a book that Ive been carrying with me from the start working with equipment, but I didnt realise that I should have been writing miles down while in the dump truck, if I had known that on alot of applications they ask for your milage I would have been keeping track of that too.
I do like to go in and talk to people when applying for a job, Ive been having problems with the computer here, weve got dial up so when doing an application online some of the sites have a time limit and get timed out. (were in the boonkocks out here) I will keep applying with different companys and see where it takes me.
And to all that have posted here, thank you, I really appreciate your help.

So your experience is more heavy equipment than trucks. That's ok. You should still have your government operators license and you can show the employer that. I still have mine and it did help me. Sometimes companies will not consider government driving as OTR experience because really it's not unless you've got some miles on the road. I was in the military and my time did count as experience because I was hauling heavy equipment all over the lower 48. And of course I kept my logs to show them. I don't think you'll have any more problems than the next person. It's just the way times are right now that is going to hurt. But keep looking and you never know you might just walk in when they need a driver and put you to work. Good luck and keep us posted.
