That would be a pretty crowded truck if you brought the wife along in a team operation.

Maverick Transportation, if you can get hired with them. They are very strict with who they hire (which makes them in my opinion the best in the business). My fiance works for them. His kids rode with him (one at a time of course, ages 14 and 18) all summer long. I'll be riding with him after we get married as their policy is wives not girlfriends. You have to sign a waiver but they don't charge you to have someone along and you don't have to go out and get insurance. Very family friendly company. They don't allow pets though like some companies do.

Imagine telling your wife "Oh you can't ride along because the company is concerned about excess weight.". I know my wife would have a few choice words for the company....after she was done kicking my ###, lol!

Pretty sure you'd be smart enough not to say it that way, you'd have the brainchild at the company call her and tell her that. Cuz otherwise, I'm not sure it's just your ### you'd have to worry about.

Here it is.. My brother got hit with this a few weeks ago. Had his wife along, like he's had several times before. A rookie trooper stopped him. Was rude, and even insulting to his wife. It's a wonder that trooper didn't get the crap kicked out of him... not by my brother.. :biggrin_2551: His boss, (the owner of the company), could care less who they take with them. However he stabbed my brother in the back on this one. The trooper called the company, and bossman asked the trooper "Does he have the paper?" This guy my brother drives for is a real, jerk.

    FMCSA Rule # 392.60

He doesn't need the paper in his possession, the carrier needs it on file at the carrier address. Here's the interpretation:

392.60 Unauthorized persons not to be transported.

Question 1: Does §392.60 require a driver to carry a copy of the written authorization (required to transport passengers) on board a Commercical Motor Vehicle (CMV)?

Guidance: No, the authorization must be maintained at the carrier’s principal place of business. At the discretion of the motor carrier, a driver may also carry a copy of the authorization.

The fee to cover a rider on shotgun is for insurance purposes, not profit. Most companies don't profit at all from these charges.
