I just searched the site for the definition of a DOT Reportable accident. And all I came up with was if there were Injuries, fatalities or one or more vehicles had to be towed. It was DOT Reportable.
Question is (cough cough) What if none of the vehicles are CMV's? does it still fall under DOT reportable? (Sorry, just had to ask)
If I have an accident in my POV and there are 3 other vehicles involved, and 2 cars are towed away, I am not ticketed or cited. but it goes on my MVR as an accident with property damage, but not as a conviction and no points are assessed. (because in Virginia it doesn't matter whos at fault, if your involved it goes on your MVR)
Is that considered DOT Reportable. FMCSR I believe states an accident as "which a Commercial Motor Vehicle....."
Any help?

Ike, are you wanting to know what to list on an application or what to report to an employer? -
Chicken,
I was wanting to know if I should check it as a DOT reportable accident on a job application, I always report the accident, but there is a block to check if its DOT reportable. and I was just thinking about the definition. Thanks Chicken.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Ive read the difference in Motor Vehicle and Commercial Motor vehicle, and 390.5 uses both terms.

Thats what I think to, I was just checking to see if I was right.

For it to be a DOT Reportable for YOU on a job application the answer is NO, if YOU were not in a CMV.
EVEN if you were involved with a CMV. The CMV driver will have to report it but not you.Ike Thanks this. -
Thanks rollover for clearing that up, at least I wont feel like Im answering the question incorrectly.
